Kubrick on Satyajit Ray.

I think Arthur C. Clarke said that Kubrick suggested that Ray may be the greatest director. I cant remember where I read this though.

Ray is one of my favorite directors, and he deserves to be considered one of the greatest. But film, like art, comes in several genres and styles so it would be hard to say he's the greatest over directors who've also done great things in other areas of film.

Stanley Kubrick
Martin Scorsese
Quentin Tarantino
Woody Allen

Kubrick certainly revered Ray. Your post reminded me of a lovely quote from Kurosawa though:

"Never having seen a Satyajit Ray film is like never having seen the sun or the moon."
