The Aspergers/Autism Retrospective Diagnoses

If you look at the wikipedia article 'Retrospective diagnoses of autism', you will find that Stanley Kubrick is on the list of people who possibly could've had an ASD diagnoses, but due to the time and the circumstances, had never recieved a diagnosis. As someone with Asperger Syndrome myself, I have very mixed feelings on this subject. The entry for Kubrick on the article is as follows:

Michael Fitzgerald and Viktoria Lyons see it as "convincing" stating that he was well known to have obsessive traits and found it socially difficult with his collaborators on set.

There are also many other articles and message boards you can easily find on Google relating to Stanley Kurick's possible Aspergers/ASD if you need more infomation. As I mentioned before, I have a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome, and while I would love to see more creators on the ASD specrum, filmmakers or otherwise, i'm slightly uncomfortable with retrospectives of this kind, as I find the idea of debating the mental state of a real-life person somewhat disrespectful. It reminds me of papparazi stalking celebrities and creating theories around them, negative or not. I feel as though if a creator is on the ASD spectrum, it should only be celebrated and accepted if the person in question had comfirmed themself to have ASD/Aspergers, whether it's self diagnosed, or they have recieved a professional diagnosis. Whether you're autistic or not, i'd love to hear some thoughts on this.

I don't agree with arm chair diagnosing on principle, that said I find it persuasive that Kubrick could have had either ASD or OCD or both, especially stuff like wearing the same wardrobe every day, and calling people up in the middle of the night.

I'm on the Autism spectrum and I think he could have definitely had it. But I don't see retrospective diagnosis as much different than what we have now IMO. If I go in front of a different doctor some say I don't have it while the other half does.

Mental "issues" are so damn hard to diagnose.
