Television Appearances

I watched a few of her TV appearances over the weekend, and I thought the following were very entertaining:

"Fraction of a Second" (Suspicion, 1958)
"For Better, For Worse" (Schlitz Playhouse, 1957)
"With Malice Toward One" (General Electric Theater, 1957)
The Decorator (series pilot, 1965)

Also worth watching, but not quite as good was
"The Cold Touch" (General Electric Theater, 1958).

Other opinions?

Ah ha!!! Funny you should ask! I was binging What's My Line on YouTube just last week. Bette Davis made several appearances as the mystery guest over the years.
I also recall her appearance on Wagon Train. Not sure of what year that was.

I've been collecting the DVDs of What's My Line and I've Got A Secret that have been coming out very gradually. In terms of the number of episodes, these are only a drop in the bucket, however. I also watch them on the Buzzr channel, along with The Name's the Same.

It's nice to know they are starting to put those on DVDs. i have checked out the reviews of some I saw on Amazon. The major complaint with What's My Line is that there were only 4 shows on one disc. What are yours like?

What I have so far:

I've Got A Secret: Vols. 1-2 have 4 eps; Vol. has 5 eps.
To Tell the Truth: Vol. 1 has 4 eps.; Vol 2 has 5 eps.
What's My Line: Vols. 1-2 have 4 eps.; Vols. 3-4 have 5 eps.
Plus, there are other misc. game show DVDs with combinations of shows.

Sounds about like what I saw on Amazon.
These are such great shows.
Have you ever watched The Price Is Right with Bill Cullen? Those are the ones I remember as a child. There are loads of those on YouTube as well.
They gave away EVERYTHING! LOL!

reply

I've never been crazy about TPIR, but I like Bill Cullen, especially when he was very young.

These episodes are from the 50s and the early 60s. The game is played completely different. The prizes are definitely from that time period. The cars are amazing!
As you would expect, The prices are out of this world..... more like that world... 😊

If you are interested, just type in the show with Bill Cullen.

By the way, thanks for the list. I may check those out! Are they available on YouTube?

reply

I found them all on YouTube, and then I ordered a DVD containing "Fraction of a Second" because I liked it so much, and the series sounds good. I also have on DVD the episode "Stranded" from Telephone Time (1957), which is on YouTube as well.

She had a fun turn on Gunsmoke (or maybe it was Laramie) where she was a vengeful old coot, and was willing to sacrifice her own son's lives to prove how important that her man had been laid low by the authorities.
She was a mean old b***h. And I remember it very well..
Plus the old Petrified Forest performance. She was a Rock Star !
