easy.. because davis is a relic of a bygone age for whose older fans the primary outlet of 'devotion' are essentially classic or standard fan pages, as is the case with nearly every other old classic film actress, leading to greater numbers of her fans with no other recourse but to congregate in those 'classic' sites..
crawford is a far more complicated creature for there are far more recent/modern venues for crawford pop culture appreciation than there are for davis as a result of the 'mommie dearest' phenomenon, which means that younger fans of the crawford myth mystique are spread over a much larger array of internet offerings.. for instance, joan crawford's unparallelled web encyclopedia, the best of everything, is an iconic resource of its own with over 3 million visitors to date.. nothing comparable exists for davis..
this tells us that crawford's current fans are generally younger than davis' and on average more computer/internet savvy and aware of the far wider array that exists for appreciating crawford's life beyond a mere classic film page..
again, with crawford, it isn't just her films that drive the younger fans' fascination.. it's her timeless, epic life.. which means that sites like 'babylon,' which encompass far greater ground (not just her old films, but her epic life and pop culture myth as well) represent a far more vibrant reflection of where these two actresses stand vis a vis the current pop culture.. and davis, for better or worse, stands well in crawford's shadow, a trend that shows no signs of reversing..
it wasn't the fall from her 16th-floor penthouse that killed her, it was the landing
