Gaslight

Watched this for the first time recently. It is a film I had been meaning to see for many years and I'm glad I finally did. Bergman's performance impressed me a great deal and the film built suspense with masterful precision. George Cukor did a brilliant job, confirming his place as my favorite Hollywood director from this period. He could do comedy and romance just as well as drama and suspense. His versatility and often blending both comedic and dramatic elements in the same film or even scene is superb.

Yes, it is a wonderful early film noir! Both Bergman and Lansburry were excellent in their roles. A well deserved Oscar by Ingrid.

Watching this again, nearly a year later, and I still think it's marvelous. One of Bergman's best performances.
