There was an arrogance about her - I can barely watch her films.

Normally I don't go around bashing dead actresses, but her presence in films was so arrogant and assuming - she walked as if she was better than other people. Now mind you, I like "Gaslight" - a great performance by Charles Boyer - and if it were any other actress I probably would've added it to my movie collection by now, but with Ingrid? There was just something about her that rubs me the wrong way.

Her quote "Cancer victims who don't accept their fate, who don't learn to live with it, will only destroy what little time they have left" is pretty insensitive and probably a big reason why I can't stomach watching her on the screen. I respect people who have a spine made of stone, but there's a difference between that and just being a flat-out jerk.

"Her quote "Cancer victims who don't accept their fate, who don't learn to live with it, will only destroy what little time they have left" is pretty insensitive" - she was a cancer victim too, so she probably knew what it was like. She was a strong but very warmhearted woman. Don't know how you could think she was insensible :(

Be honest you do like to bash dead actresses. I've seen you do it on other ones. You should at least be honest about it.

Ingrid Bergman was an absolutely outstanding actress who played the roles she was given impeccably. She had an elegance about her on the screen that was unmatched by any woman. She could also be humble and plain when she was called on to play it. For me,the warmth she emitted on the screen was the best part of watching her. Her natural Swedish accent only endeared her more.

I find her smug and self congratulatory on screen and therefore I don't love her.

Of course people who really are smug, etc, can learn not to show it. I don't seen that in Ingrid Bergman, so she's never been able to move me. Her own self love gets in the way.

smug? what about the Inn...? She was the opposite there

To me, Ingrid Bergman represented warmth as opposed to Greta Garbo's cold and aloof personal [which worked fine for her]. There has never been any hint of arrogance in Ingrid Bergman, but not everybody can see the same things.

I find her to be full of positive energy/emotions. Needless to say that she was super hot and stunning screen presence

Totally agree, Ingrid had a natural and sweet presence on screen, and she was among the top five sexiest stars of the 1940s.
