Do you have an idol????

ANyone that really inspired you in life?

SOmeone whose words and actions really meant something to you.

And, had a major impact on the way you live your own life.

Only one for me....

Bruce Lee

Any others????

reply

Bowie. But not because I think he'll give me any sage device. I just believe he's the greatest rock artist who ever lived. But yeah, his music inspired me.

reply

SOUnds good.

Thanks for the response.

reply

Even The Laughing Gnome? 😉

reply

No. I'm not a fan of anything before Hunky Dory. I even hate Space Oddity. We need to forgive him his formative years.

reply

I actually have some affection for his early stuff.

reply

Bob Dylan

reply

Yeah, his lyrics have influenced many.

Thanks for the reply.

reply

Not just his lyrics - his music. ;)

reply

I am not sure about idols, but there were definitely people I looked up to during different phases of my life, especially as a child in the '80s/'90s. Not necessarily for the personalities of their personal lives, but for excelling at what they did in their respective fields.

Sergio Leone
John Woo
Tim Burton
Michael Bay
Gene Roddenberry
George Lucas
James Cameron

JCVD
Wesley Snipes
Bruce Lee
Jackie Chan

Billy Idol
Steve Stevens
Zakk Wylde

reply

All right, my first partner (I see you mentioned Bruce Lee).

Nice choices, thank you.

reply

I'm surprised Idol showed up twice. But yeah, he was one of the most dynamic forces in 80's music.

reply

When I was a kid back in the 70's my idol was Luke Skywalker. In 2025 at almost 59, I've come to the conclusion that there is Mark Hamill and then there's Luke Skywalker

reply

Makes sense.

Thank you.

reply

My idols are Tom Green and Jim Morrison.

I don't idolize anyone else but Im big fan of Jackie Chan, Eminem, Brian Molko, Tech Nine, DMX and B-Real.

reply

TOm Green?

Oh yes, The Lizard King - excellent

reply

Yes, Tom Green. I wouldn't be half the man I am today if not from him. I can understand you being perplexed about it though. No worries.

reply

And yet Freddy Got Fingered isn't your favorite film, speaking of being perplexed.

reply

I feel you, I feel you.

I'm really more of a fan of his shows and his skits than his movies. I also love his stand-up and met him once at Yuk-Yuks. I even watched many of his TikTok lives where he either records funny rap or spend time with his dog in the nature.

reply

Hahaha, I don't even know who Tom Green is.

I'm going to look him up...

All right, Canadian guy that was once married to Drew Barrymore. Is this who you are talking about?

reply

Yeah but more than that, he had The Tom Green Show

reply

Well, sorry brother - he slipped by me.

If he had a positive influence on you - terrific, good for you.

reply

John Bonham

reply

Probably Billy Corgan. His music got me through some tough times even though he's kind of an asshole.

reply

Ray Bradbury.

A friend of mine always said, "If you're going to have an idol, pick someone who's dead, that way they can't screw up on ya," then he'd laugh*. Ray Bradbury was very much alive at this time.

*Condolences to Neil Gaiman's fans.
