Do you think a show should end because the main actor quit or should they just recast the main part?

There are a lot of instances where some actor's ego causes problems. Sometimes these problems lead to the actor quitting. Then fans who liked the actor stop watching the show, even though the show is still good. So what do you feel is better, cancel the show or recast the actor?

It really depends. If it's just after 1 season, I get why you would want to recast or create a replacement character, but a lot tend to quit when they feel they've done all they can with the character and very often they're right and it's time to end the show.

I think it depends really on the show. Ensemble shows usually do fine, sometimes they don't. I don't usually have a preference, as it all depends on the type of show it is.

A good example is "Two and a Half Men". The show became unbearable when Charlie Sheen left and was replaced by Ashton Kutcher. But then again they played different characters.

Sort of like "Two and a Half Men" and how Charlie Sheen made everyone's lives at CBS miserable that they had to bring in Ashton Kutcher and make the show worse

The TV show Spartacus had to recast their lead role when the actor who played Spartacus tragically passed away. I remember thinking it was jarring and had to find out why, but the replacement did a good job and after a couple of episodes the switch was pretty much forgotten.

I think The Simpsons needs to end as the voice actors are getting too old. You've got to think they want to retire or you don't want to get in a situation where actors die due to old age. It's time to wrap it up.

I wish just recasting or introducing a new lead worked, but it rarely does, even with an actor I don't like - the show almost always declines in quality - so I'm in the show ending camp.
