I rarely ever take a sick day at work. I work overnights, love my job and have the luxury of being less than 10 minutes from home which is something I've never had in the 30 years of working in security and now I work in Pubic Safety for a University close to me and tonight, since it's the end of the semester and the students are now on Christmas Break, it's a sick day tonight. How often do you take a sick day from work or PTO??

Employers have long figured out that even if you have just a common cold with mild symptoms, it's better for the company if you stay home for a few days than to pass on the infection to other colleagues at work.
You're literally asked to stay home when sick, if you go to work anyway and your superiors notice you've got a cold or something they'll tell you to go home.
But then it's really totally different, because for up to 6 weeks continuous sick leave you get your full salary paid, while in the US you're lucky if after a week of sick leave you still have a job.
I think I take a sick day probably one day every other month. The last one I took was Nov 1st. After the 1st of the year, I'll have 134 hours of sick time
shareI have over a year of sick time. I had to take 3 days in February of this year because I was sick, but that's it ("Sick time" is separate from "vacation time" where I work also).
Where I work, I can apply my remaining sick time towards my retirement, which is (hopefully) drawing closer, so I try to only use my sick time for when I'm really sick. 😃 There are many people I work with that use their sick leave constantly...if they would end up having some sort of extended medical issue, then they'd be hurting.
It won't be for a huge amount of money, but every little bit helps!
I think I've taken an average of one sick day a week this year. Don't know how I still have a job to be honest lol. Sometimes I'll just randomly take a whole week off sick. I don't get paid for it though.
