My impression is that they are very good, I am not too familiar, I will say that "No Excuses" is one of my favorite 90s songs -

Never heard of them and I'm not really into thrash rock which would explain this

I prefer Alice in Chains over Nirvana, Perl Jam, and Metallica any day.

They go great with Stone Temple Pilots and Tool.

We've been through this before, 'Facelift' is an awesome metal album...

...but it's their only good album

All of their albums with layne, and jar of flies, are good......im not saying any more LOL

Weird fact: but i have never listened to their music they made after layne died.....im just not interested in listening to it fr

I haven't either. I saw Cantrell in concert in the late '90s as a solo act, and he sang very much like Layne, though slightly less powerfully. I also saw a behind-the-scenes video of them recording their first album, Facelift, where Cantrell was showing Layne how to 'sing' the songs — meaning he had come up with the vocal melodies and everything.

In any case, I’ve always had the sense that Jerry Cantrell was the true artist and creative force behind the band's music.

Agreed 💯. I remember reading that "Rooster" was inspired by Jerry Cantrell's father, who served during the Vietnam War. He's a talented guy for sure.

Not really into dudes whining and feeling sorry for themselves. American rock had far too much of that in the 90s.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT DUDES BONDING AND SHOOTING GUNS WITH THEIR SHIRTS OFF?

reply

Their... music... is... so... slow.

It's the musical equivalent of Stevie from Malcolm in the Middle.

THIS^

I DON'T DISLIKE THEM...BUT THEY ARE SO SLOW.

I had their first album when I was a kid, and loved it. I've listened to Jar of Flies and Dirt in the past decade. They all sound very different from one another, but still great music. I think Facelift was my least favorite.
