Boss Ross Painting

I followed a Boss Ross video and did a painting last night - Winter Frost. It turned out OK, I think the mountains look really good. Can't believe how fast and easy he makes it look. Was fun, might do another one. I used to draw a lot as a kid, but first time ever painting.

Moral to the story - be specific.

reply

Moral of the story: don't have pics of hairy guys on your phone.

reply

I thought this was a judgement free zone?

reply

Yes, we're free to pass judgement on you.

reply

I think parkerbot found Rob Halford’s cell phone. I’m not judging, do your thing guys🤘

reply

If it was Rob Halford's cell phone, there would have been more leather in the pic.

reply

The OP lied, that is a very ugly
Mountain😳

reply

I love the shadows between the valleys.

reply

I might have painted a bit less shrubbery on that mountain myself but yes, lovely use of brown ochre and yellow umber.

reply

I concur regarding the latter, however, such shrubbery accentuates the visibility of the rivers and streams, in the former, I must say.

My in-laws went to a Bob Ross style class and the both painted the same winter mountain scene. Let's just say neither one of them wouldn't have made great artists.

I think mountains are the easiest thing to paint because they're so far distant from the point of view, and Ross also did them in the least amount of camera time.

Up until a couple of months ago (when we got a Roku), I still used to watch Bob Ross on the local PBS station here. I can't draw a straight line with a ruler, but I just loved watching his episodes. He just made it look so easy...and I love his nature paintings.

reply

I never tried to paint a picture myself, but he certainly did make it look easy.

reply

Bob was truly a boss.

🌄⛰️🎨
Agreed!
We love him here, and it’s totally not just the sexy perm-fro😄

reply

I'm off to paint some happy little trees!🖌🖼🌲🌲🌲

reply

I actually own a Bob Ross ‘happy little trees’ T-shirt. I love Bob Ross and his cute little squirrel. Dude was very talented👍

reply

I like the names of the colors

Prussian Blue
Phthalo Blue
Alizarin Crimson
Indian Yellow
Titanium White
Van Dyke Brown

Now lets make some happy clouds

reply

I like how he pronounces ‘Titanium Whhhhhiiiite .’

Whhhhiiiite lol, who says ‘white’ like that, he was a character!

A FEW BOB ROSS HIGHLIGHTS...

HE WAS A MASTER SERGEANT IN THE US AIR FORCE.

HE LOST PART OF HIS LEFT INDEX FINGER AS A CARPENTER WHEN HE WAS A YOUNG MAN.

HE RESCUED AND CARED FOR INJURED ANIMALS...INCLUDING SNAKES,ALLIGATORS,ARMADILLOS, AND SQUIRRELS...ONE SUCH SQUIRREL APPEARED ON SEVERAL EPISODES OF HIS SHOW.

HE DISCOVERED PAINTING BY WATCHING A PAINTING TV SHOW WHILE WORKING AS A BARTENDER.

HE DISLIKED HIS HAIRSTYLE BUT KEPT AS IT HAD BECOME PART OF HIS LOGO.

IN HIS SHORT LIFE...ROSS PAINTED WELL OVER 30,000 PAINTINGS.

reply

On the show he would call the squirrel and other critters "rascals"

A few years ago at Burning Man they had a Bob Ross thing https://playaevents.burningman.org/2019/playa_event/34988/
