I don't know if the curren't social climate is to blame, but it is endless it seems.
And what adds to this confusion is how right now, we are in this humongous and accessible environment of entertainment that has never been available before.
I guess what so many of these people need is to have experienced when television was not 24/7 and special effects consisted of a plate on a string and such things.
If one looks around, the possibilities are countless with streaming and the Internet. And rather than focusing on what people enjoy, there are so many that seem to just endlessly complain.
I'm less and less likey to read about stuff I havent seen yet here - because I know its best to enjoy it first like a normal person before coming here to have a load of complainers tell me why it was shit.
Ah, this was a good one.....though, I did that as a carry over from the subject line to the main post. Sadly, yes, it was done to get people to continue reading.
My intent was not to start some sort of flame war or the like, but instead to point out if one really examines this era of availability of programs and movies, viewers really are in an unprecedented golden era of accessiblilty to so much entertainment and content, with even much of it free, but somehow, this is so easily overlooked in my opinion.
This is especially evident for those of us that grew up in an era where access to these items did not exist. In my growing up, if you missed a program or movie, it was wait a year before a re-run, if at all. Especially, if in a region where cable was not available or a region with limited television channels.
And then came streaming all these years later and WOW. Programs and films are now accessible from every place in the world and often times, very good stuff is easily found in searches and this doesn't even touch the subject of pirated programs on the Internet if one so chooses to seek them out.
Then, if you view threads here, it is almost the negative posts seem to outnumber those where people discuss more positive things (really, just glance at the post headlines under a topic - it is there).
As for those that claim most of what is out there is garbage or crap, yes, there is a ton of it, but if one looks around there is so much more good content to be found and especially if one can deal with subtitles. This includes not only new shows, but streaming allows for the discovery of classics of both TV and film. And frankly, even if all shows streaming or available were only good shows, no person could sit through all the good stuff in a lifetime. There are just too many out there.
I guess perspectives matter quite a bit, especially when one has the contrast of broadcast television mainly consisting of the big three networks and PBS and when TV wasn't 24/7 and of today where viewing opportunities are endless.
I DIG YOUR PERSPECTIVE...YOU SEEM LIKE A PRETTY COOL PERSON...CHECK IN ON GENERAL DISCUSSION OFTEN...POST A LOT.....GOOD PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD...WE HAVE GAMES AND WATCH PARTIES...IT'S WORTH THE TIME.
You need to understand most of the users on here seem to be 40-65 years old, with many having a more conservative political leaning.
A lot of the complaining is simply nostalgic whining from people who are getting old. All the complaining about how modern movies suck, CGI sucks, digital cameras suck, new actors suck, non-white actors suck is just whining from people who miss 'the good old days'.
You're correct that the present is the best time period for media consumption, the ease of access to pretty much every show or movie you could think of. Every week more and more shows and movies are released, with all the old 'classic' content still there (some people act like they get erased whenever something new comes out!). Still that won't stop some people on here reminiscing about VHS rental stores back in the 80s, or how it was better to be a movie fan in the 90s than today... even though they can access any 90s movie they want whilst having all the content released after that right at their finger tips too.
No complaints are required here.
The whole world is a total shitshow and I’m the big clown in the center ring…I’m endlessly entertaining and I laugh at all of it. Join me, we’ll juggle and do somersaults with our big floppy shoes, we are forever clowns,. We own this arena buddy, Fuck ‘em.
In terms of movies, Hollywood has turned to utter shit, spewing out low quality crap stuffed with patronising and divisive woke propaganda. Expect people to call that out.
TV has a similar problem although it did have a Golden Age 15-ish years ago, but that has largely died down. You might get a decent show every now and then, but there’s every chance it’ll get cancelled, or worse - turn into low quality woke garbage as a bait-and-switch.
The fact that there’s more slop now isn’t a good thing. Quantity does not = quality.
People will rightly call out dogshit and trying to gaslight that into some kind of irrational ‘complaining’ won’t work.
If there’s more of that on this site then it’s because dissenting opinions are actually allowed here, unlike Reddit.
Melton isn't right at all. There's more to modern TV than Disney.
This is also the age of non-anglo content. Tons more well-produced and well-written shows not from the UK and USA in a way that did not exist 10, 20 years ago.

TV shows have always been cancelled. Shows in the 80s, 90s and 00s got yanked from the air 5 episodes into their run. There are notable shows like Firefly and Kings that were considered high quality that got pulled right in their runs. At least shows now get a season to fill out a part of their story before they might get cancelled.
>or worse - turn into low quality woke garbage as a bait-and-switch.
And what shows are these? Given how you seem to think that a cripple being portrayed in a TV show somehow in itself constitutes 'woke', I'd like to know what shows you think were good, then declined.
>The fact that there’s more slop now isn’t a good thing. Quantity does not = quality.
There's more "slop" but also lots more highly-rated TV shows. There's more TV shows in general.
Last 5 years, either new or ongoing:

This is also the age of non-anglo content. Tons more well-produced and well-written shows not from the UK and USA in a way that did not exist 10, 20 years ago.

Stranger Things and Westworld come to mind; I'm fairly certain I could think of more, but off the top of my mind, these would be prime examples. Brilliant first seasons, followed by complete garbage.

>…and fell right back into your signature lame gaslighting.
This is like saying "Anyone who disagrees with my opinion about media is obviously gaslighting". It's narcissistic as hell. You can like what you like, but you not liking something doesn't make it inherently objectively bad. You personally do not decide what things are good or bad.
>My analysis is correct and everyone, including you, knows it.
I know of no such thing. I decide what I think, not you.
I don't think voicing valid critiques of the enormous amounts of media available is "complaining" per se; if anything, it makes a lot of sense that having more to consume means there'll be more to critique, as so much is being pumped out so quickly that quality is bound to be compromised.
