One thing that confuses me about this site is...

how many endless complainers there are.

I don't know if the curren't social climate is to blame, but it is endless it seems.

And what adds to this confusion is how right now, we are in this humongous and accessible environment of entertainment that has never been available before.

I guess what so many of these people need is to have experienced when television was not 24/7 and special effects consisted of a plate on a string and such things.

If one looks around, the possibilities are countless with streaming and the Internet. And rather than focusing on what people enjoy, there are so many that seem to just endlessly complain.

reply

THAT IS WHY THEY CREATED KOWALSKI™️....I OFFSET THE WHINING BITCHES WITH POSITIVE AWESOMENESS!~!

reply

And how!

reply

Quantity does not equal quality. Eighty percent of stuff to watch is just boring garbage. Video games have better plots than most movies. I'm not complaining just stating a fact.

Signed, million man.

reply

Congratulations, you just joined the same club with that post.

"special effects consisted of a plate on a string and such things."

I'd rather watch that than these supposed countless of possibilities you speak off.

Streaming and internet just means that everybody can make a show/movie these days, which are mostly folks who would never have gotten a chance back in the good old days because they suck.

reply

I agree with the OP but the whole thing is kind of ironic overall

reply

>Streaming and internet just means that everybody can make a show/movie these days, which are mostly folks who would never have gotten a chance back in the good old days because they suck.

There was plenty of absolute dire nonsense being released by networks in the 70s, 80s and 90s. An endless swamp of medical/police procedural slop and family sitcoms. Drivel like Baywatch, Walker, Texas Ranger, The Bold and the beautiful and Pacific Blue.

Most TV has always been garbage.

reply

"Drivel like Baywatch, Walker, Texas Ranger, The Bold and the beautiful and Pacific Blue.

Many of those shows are highly regarded and have fans numbering in the millions. Why should that consensus be ignored and your assessment accepted as true, when you have provided no criteria for your assessment?

Your statement about "Most TV" is refuted as easily as a statement that starts with "Most Muslims."

reply

>Many of those shows are highly regarded and have fans numbering in the millions. Why should that consensus be ignored and your assessment accepted as true, you have provided no criteria for your assessment?

Are they? On what basis? because they've got lots of viewers? I'm going by critical reputation unless you're about to claim that stuff like Keeping up with the Kardashians is somehow prestige TV.

I mean sure, if you want to contend that those shows are actually high quality because they've got lots of watchers then I can just as well say that Riverdale and Emily in Paris are also "high quality" by the same metric. Lots of shows from the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s and now have lots of viewers. So TV was either always mostly bad, or it's always been good.

What is Stratego's metric for saying it's now apparently bad in a way that it apparently wasn't in the 70s, 80s and 90s?

reply

Skavau straight in there with the gaslighting again, instantly fails 🤦🏻‍♂️

Skavau, drop one of your trademark straw-questions. Go…

reply

What gaslighting here exactly?

reply

What do you mean by complainers? If you are one of those people who think posters with negative opinions about things you like should just watch something else and stop posting, it's a discussion board. Opposing opinions and negative reviews are part of that.

reply

I did not suggest that, nor would it be a viable demand. My bewilderment comes from, if one makes the effort, there are outstanding shows and movies out there to be found and many, many of them, but the trend here tends to be blasting out what people don't like instead of things that they do like. THAT is what I would love to see more of.

Rarely do I comment on the "Trending" posts because the other day the majority of the "Trending" posts entailed politics. What I do use the "Trending" posts for is when a poster posts about an under the radar movie or program that I have never heard of before. But those instances seem to be less and less due to divisive posts taking over the "Trending."

reply

Politics is the problem and it's a toxic environment right now that just happens to have a Politics Board on a movie website of all places to vent without being banned and you can speak your peace on certain matters, whereas, other movie websites like Box Office Theory or World of KJ Index will only allow you to speak openly about Politics if it fits their Narrative, that being very liberal and far too the left and anyone who even leans right will not last long.. Very Orwellian Society we're beginning to lean toward and that's never good.. 🤔

reply

🙄KNOCK IT OFF,DUDE.

reply

This poster asked why people are complaining and I'm being honest about it unlike you who lives in this world in your head made up of Marshmallows & Cotton candy

reply

YES...AND THEN YOU WENT FULL POLITICAL WHERE IT DOES NOT BELONG...THE EXACT PROBLEM THIS SITE SUFFERS FROM...MISPLACED SEWAGE.

reply

And it's only going to get worse as the months go by leading up to November

reply

SO....KNOCK IT THE FUCK OFF THEN.😉

reply

You can’t talk about modern Hollywood without calling out woke. Hollywood has crammed woke into our movies.

Now, what creatures like Kowalski will try and do is accuse you of discussing politics by mentioning woke, with the hope that he can get your post removed because it ‘belongs on the politics board’.

Ignore the screams of censorious Leftoid activists like Kowalski and Skavau. Hollywood shoved politics into our entertainment and it will be discussed wherever we discuss movies.

reply

FALSE...YOU CAN SCREAMWOKE ALL YOU LIKE...YOU SOUND SILLY AND PATHETIC...BUT HAVE AT IT.

Ignore the screams of censorious Leftoid activists like Kowalski and Skavau. Hollywood shoved politics into our entertainment and it will be discussed wherever we discuss movies.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM...AND REPORTED.😉

NOW REPLY TO YOURSELF AND NOT ME IF YOU FEEL BAD ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE DONE.

reply

THIS IS THE PROBLEM...AND REPORTED.😉

See how the censorious little bitch operates? 👆🏻

reply

>You can’t talk about modern Hollywood without calling out woke. Hollywood has crammed woke into our movies.

There's more to modern movies and TV than Hollywood.

>Ignore the screams of censorious Leftoid activists like Kowalski and Skavau. Hollywood shoved politics into our entertainment and it will be discussed wherever we discuss movies.

When did I say you can't discuss anything?

And given your opinions on the media, If I'm right, you're in no position to talk about censorship.

reply

One thing that confuses me about this site is that even though it clearly states, “General Discussion: Talk about anything here...except politics.” People continue to discuss it here instead of the board given over to specifically discuss that topic, which is named funnily enough, Politics.

reply

It's because there's more traffic here.

reply

That’s no excuse. Talk about it on the designated board - it’s really not that difficult to understand, eh?

reply

I agree, but I'm just saying that they didn't miss the "except politics" part, they are purposely doing it for the traffic.

reply

I might start posting ‘rate this song’ threads in Politics.

reply

Do it. I'll back you up on there.

reply

I’ll probably get banned, lol.

reply

If you're talking about music, you'll probably get band.

reply

Ta-daa!

reply

Well that's the beauty of the existing dichotomy...While we obviously need to keep politics off GD, because everything could possibly be political, nothing that you post there can ever be considered off-topic!

reply

I've seriously considered starting movie and pop-culture topics on the politics board, too lol.

reply

I’ve done a few jokey threads over there, but they don’t seem to have much of a sense of humour, lol.

reply

If talking about talking about politics is political, then I kindly request that you relocate your political speech to the politics board, Andy.

If it is not then I will shrug and carry about my day as usual.

reply

Does that apply to talking about talking about talking about politics?

reply

I think we're back to where we started, being confused.

reply

I dont think he's talking about the politics on the site.

Just the general movie bitching
Its a rare movie that doesent get a total roasting and dozens of threads claiming its crap.

reply

The nature of the internet, I suppose. IMDB boards were usually like that. Even classic films have as many posts bashing the movie as praising it. This movie isn't all that!

reply

Yeah other websites would censor hopelessly run-on sentences like these(which are in about 90% of the posts he makes!)

Come on man, give us all a break...

reply

Kowalski straight in there trying to shut down criticism of the obvious Leftoid politicisation of Hollywood. Fail.

reply

Too many options. Scrolling through tons of mediocre offerings, and not finding anything appealing, can get pretty tiresome and depressing. Just yesterday I was considering getting rid of everything but live TV. There will either be something I want to watch, or I'll do something else with my time.

reply

What is it you like in tV?

reply

Live TV? Sports, news, comedy movies or shows, docs, reality shows, cooking shows and competitions, etc.

The last thing I enjoyed on Apple was Severance.

The last thing I enjoyed on Disney was Andor.

The last thing I enjoyed on Netflix was Seinfeld.

reply

Apple TV has multiple shows in the mould of Severance: Dark Matter, Constellation (cancelled, but mostly ended okay), Silo.

And Netflix has stuff like it in Dark.

reply

I liked the premise of Silo, just not the execution.
I'll try Constellation.

Is Dark the name of a show or an area in Netflix?

reply

A show

reply

Interesting. I'll give it a shot, thanks. Netflix needs to do a better job of not burying good shows.

reply

Oh, I don't think it's just this site. Negativity reigns in most places on the internet where people talk about films and television.

This is why I enjoy Letterboxd. It's filled with people who actually still watch and enjoy films. It's a refreshing oasis away from the gloom of the casual film fans.

Of course, they can still be negative about some films -- everybody is, only a simpleton would like everything -- but the overall vibe is less Grandpa 'I used to be with it' Simpson than most film forums I've encountered.

reply

Everyone has their own preference. That's why your mom prepares different dishes for each of you. Everyone is supposed to be happy, but you, son of a bitch, want to taste every dish and then complain.

reply

Ah, and then replies like this appear and prove my point......
