Anyone remember the site YMDb?

This must have been at least 15 years ago, but there was a site called YMDb (Your Movie Database) where users could compile a list of their personal Top 20 Films. There was some weighted scoring system based on the placement of each movie in each user's list that would determine the consensus "Favorite Movies" of all users (similar to IMDb Top 250).

It was easy to add/remove movies from your personal list, or simply readjust their order. You could also check out other users’ lists and rate/comment on them.

It was nice because other lists that were similar to your own would be automatically presented to you, so it was a great way of finding people with similar tastes in film and getting "personalized" recommendations for movies you hadn’t seen.

Not sure what made me think of this after all these years, but I just looked into it and apparently the site is no longer around. Too bad--I remember having a lot of fun there and discovering some great films I otherwise probably would not have.

I've got a felling thats what the "letterboxed" site does these days , although I'm not sure 'cos i dont use it

I don't use Letterboxd either, though I suppose it's similar in that it's more 'socially oriented' than something like IMDb. It still seems substantially different from YMDb, though.

I remember it, but that's about all. That's the funny thing about the internet. It changed a lot. I just looked up an old ghost hunting website.

Surpsingly it is with the last update in 2008.

Even Lycos is still there. That was the search engine I used prior to 2000.

I've never even heard of Lycos, but that's interesting it's still around after all these years.

For the most part though, I suppose change is the only constant. Especially when it comes to the World Wide Web.
