WWDW 2: The List
I took the movies mentioned in the other "WWDW?"" thread, and many others that I found from godewey's posts in StoneKeeper's "What did you watch this week?" threads (which were a GOLDMINE), then I filtered for those that godewey rated 7.5 or higher, as well as for those that appear to be available for free in the U.S., U.K. and Canada via PlutoTV. (Some are also available on Tubi, though I am uncertain as to availability outside the U.S.)
That effort produced the list below.
Seems like plenty to choose from, across many genres. The man had eclectic tastes!
I'm going to leave this thread pinned for further discussion/suggestions and then bow out. It is ultimately StoneKeeper's call to make.
Thanks again to StoneKeeper and to everyone for their help.

Cinema Paradiso (1988) - A filmmaker recalls his childhood when falling in love with the pictures at the cinema of his home village and forms a deep friendship with the cinema's projectionist.

One of my favorite movies ever. I'll say what I said on the movie board.
When I watch this movie It reminds of what movies are capable of.
What movies are supposed to be. How they should make you feel. -10[/10]

Witness for the Prosecution (1958) - A veteran British barrister must defend his client in a murder trial that has surprise after surprise.

One of my favorite movies of all time - 9[/10]
The Killing (1956) - Crook Johnny Clay assembles a five-man team to plan and execute a daring racetrack robbery.
Available on PlutoTV. Thanks to BrandNewPoster for digging this up.
This is one of Kubrick's early works. You can see his style in this movie.
It stars a bunch of character actors that you recognize but don't know all their names.
A group of men come up with a plan to rob a racetrack. A really good film- 8[/10]
Of Mice and Men (1992) - A nomadic farm worker looks after his dimwitted, gentle-giant friend during the Great Depression.
Available on Tubi and on PlutoTV
I give a slight nod the the original movie. Having said that you can't go wrong with either version. The important thing is see the movie or better yet read the book. [Agreeing with original rating from db20db of 8/10]
Eat Drink Man Woman (1994) - A senior chef lives with his three grown daughters; the middle one finds her future plans affected by unexpected events and the life changes of the other household members.
Available on Tubi and on PlutoTV
I agree with you about Earl and Eat Drink Man Woman. Eat Drink is Ang Lee's best work in my opinion. Every time I watch it I feel differently. Always good. As you go through different periods in life you feel differently about movies. I have viewed this movie through different eyes for over 20 years. Always stupendous. [Agreeing with rating from MinaVladimir. No number rating, but "stupendous" sounds like more than a 7.5/10]
The Children's Hour (1962) - A rebellious student at a girls' school accuses two teachers of lesbianism.
Available on Tubi and on PlutoTV
Audrey Hepburn, Shirley MacLaine, James Garner - Two teachers who have their life turned upside down because of one lie. - 7.5[/10]
Incendies (2010) - Twins journey to the Middle East to discover their family history and fulfill their mother's last wishes.
Available on Tubi
Incendies was an amazing movie. [Agreeing with StoneKeeper's rating of 8.5/10]
'71 (2015) - In 1971, a young and disoriented British soldier is accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the deadly streets of Belfast.
Available on Tubi and on PlutoTV
Story of a British Soldier sent to Ireland during the riots in 1971. He gets separated from his unit during a riot in Belfast. The movie consists of different groups trying to find him and him trying to get away. An excellent action thriller. I sometimes found it hard to determine what the director was going for. Story or political. Either way it gave me a sense of what was going on in Ireland at this time-7.5[/10]
Deliverance (1972) - Intent on seeing the Cahulawassee River before it's dammed and turned into a lake, outdoor fanatic Lewis Medlock takes his friends on a canoeing trip they'll never forget into the dangerous American back-country.
Available on Tubi
Still a really good movie after multiple viewings. 7.5[/10]share
