When did the 80's really end ?

Some people say early 90's, some people say 1994. I think people think that because of movies that were in development, and took a while to get released, and fashion changing over time.

Any ideas ?

Around 1992 or so.

There was a specific period of the late 80's that lasted from around 1989-1992. It's when the Hair Metal bands toned down the "Glam", like they started to wear less makeup and look more like regular heavy metal/hard rock bands. You can see this with Motley Crue's "Dr. Feelgood" and Poisons "Flesh & Blood" Albums from the late 80s, and Bon Jovi's "Keep the Faith" Album from 1992. This was like the last of the 80's.

By 1992 grunge officially took over and the 90's were in.

Good question. Previous decades had a 3 year lag. 50s ended in 1963. 60s ended in 1973. I vaguely remember 1980s ending on time and the 90s starting in 1990. 80s were prorich, selfish period and in 1990 there was a little social unrest activity. The problem is change (fashion, music, TV, politics, etc.) wasn't as drastic as previous decades.

I think real change didn't happen again until the internet age in 2000 so maybe the 80s lasted 2 decades.

Newsweek had this cover a few months after the October 1987 stock market crash:

Wonder if the 2080s will be as good

Some say that the landmark was the release of the Nevermind of Nirvana, May 1991. Others say was the release of the Terminator 2, July 1991. For me it is not far off, somewhere there

Agreed. Those two examples left me with a strong feeling that things were changing.
