Stray cats just find me and I also volunteer at a local cat rescue center. Two years ago Miss Kitty wandered into our yard and I found Max at the rescue center this past Christmas Day. He cost $65 including all of his shots and I have Miss Kitty on a wellness plan with my vet for $35 a month, which includes annual shots and bloodwork along with unlimited visits if she needs to see a vet.
shareOur local humane society is having a sale right now: just $5 for any cat over six months old. I just checked and it's no wonder - they are overpopulated with cats and kittens right now.
shareCat named moxy ,Spca ( shelter ) payed for the shots. wasnt more than $50 . The asked me if i was gonna get her declawed. I didn't k knoww that was a thing. And i would not want the for my cat. They said right answer .
I got her after my brother passed away at 24 to help my mom cope(and the added practical benefit of scaring mice away). Moxy helped me more than anyone. Shes my most committed friend and maybe even family member lol. She seems so wise, and has been like a big sister to my 2 young kids. Just a beautiful soul
I wanna add my japanese inlaws have had count less cats, in their small apartment they currently have 4 . The importance of those cats for them can not be put into words
I got my girl from a rescue place over there in Ossining, New York.
I can’t recall the ‘adoption’ fee exactly, but she was around $400-$450…worth every penny though she’s a stubborn brat sometimes😄!
The fees go to help pay for feed and shots for the other animals, its a perfectly fair arrangement.
All of my pets have been rescue kittens, strays and ferals that cost nothing but vet bills! Every single one has grown up to be a sweet purry housecat, although the kitten I have now is still working on being a well-behaved house cat. Well, *I* am working on his behavior, he isn't... Anyway! there's a loose and informal network of cat people out there, and if you ever want a free kitten then all you have to do is tell a cat person. They'll know someone who's found a kitten or kittens that needs a home.
So if you want a pet, either adopt from the pound or take in a stray, or get a very well-bred, expensive purebred. Do NOT get a cheap purebred from a backyard breeder, those animals may be sweet and loveable, but the ALL have terrible genetic health issues that will cost you a fortune and slowly break your heart.
Bought a Umbrella Cockatoo back in 1976 for $1.35 off the old man who lived next door. He wanted some beer. He sold me his bird.
I still have it.
