Love being in nature and camping .... not a fan of the hunting but you do your thing and I'll do mine 😊.
I've never done canoeing, how did you get into that? Do you get picked up down stream or do you try and paddle back if the river is calm?
We have some nice ponds in the area with decent fishing.
The only river I rafted was The Delaware but that was on big rubber rafts and they picked us all up way down river.

Depends on usage, just take your wheel off once per year and inspect the amount of friction material remaining through the little hole in the caliper.

Yes more is better , they come about 12 mm thick and when they wear down to , well , about 3mm maybe.
Its time to change.
If you've done 60k on the one set of pads its probly about time! especially as your oil guy is saying same.
Its a pretty easy job to do yourself if you want o save a little money.
There will be a youtube video of that exact job for your exact miodel of car no doubt.
