shareNah. I suspect you're thinking of Timothy Berners-Lee. He invented the world wide web while working for CERN in Switzerland. He didn't invent the internet.
No one person invented the internet, but many of the key players in its development were indeed American (with some French and British too). The internet emerged from the Arpanet, which was a project of the US Department of Defence.
I personally wouldn't claim the internet was an American invention as such (because it isn't a single invention), but if any one nation has a claim to inventing it, it is indeed the USA.
A Brit, Tim Berners-Lee, invented the world wide web in 1989. Two Americans, Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn, laid the foundation for the internet with their TCP/IP protocol developed in the 1970s.
