Murder is rare in my neighbourhood.

Kinda. We weren't close, but there we had a family acquiantance who was murdered by her ex-husband.

A couple of guys I served with were killed by the IRA in Northern Ireland in the 1980s. I was there for one of them, the other I wasn't on that tour.

Yes. Not a relative or close friend, a high school classmate (occurred 15 years after high school). It really struck me hard as I had had a tremendous crush on her in high school.

Yes. I didn’t know her that well but my friend’s girlfriend was murdered.
