Can anyone recommend me a good quality TV?

I posted this a few months ago but life got in the way. Don't care for gaming. I want to watch sports and TV shows.

8K doesn't seem worth it.

So many choices it's hard to pick.

Update: I'm referring to actual TVs and not shows.

Better Call Saul
Breaking Bad
Peaky Blinders
Homicide: Life On The Streets
The Mandalorian
Sons Of Anarchy
Harper’s Island
Most of American Horror story.

Seriously, no kidding, these were all really good series, not a joke👍

Thanks. But I'm referring to actual TVs and not shows.

A new TV show or any TV show?
If you want an excellent show from the last 10 years, I would recommend Mr. Robot. I am just rewatching it right now, so that is why it's on my mind. It is an excellent show, in the same league as Breaking Bad, not as good obviously, but in the same league.

Thanks but I'm referring to actual TVs and not shows, lol

Oh shit, sorry. Didn't catch that.
As far as TV's, I don't have a clue. I'm actually pretty disillusioned with the current state of TVs. I bought a Samsung Smart TV like 2 years ago, and it stopped working after a year. So I bought another one, and this one is beginning to fail too. The screen goes black sometimes for a second; This is what started happening before the other one stopped working. When this one fails, I'm planning to get an LG instead of a Samsung, and maybe go for an OLED. This is the one I'm looking at right now:
https://www.amazon.com/LG-55-Inch-Refresh-AI-Powered-OLED55A2PUA/dp/B09RMMHCSH/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2P9BGMN5X5ZBJ&keywords=tv%2Blg&qid=1673836023&refinements=p_n_feature_thirteen_browse-bin%3A23944737011%2Cp_89%3ALG%7CSony%2Cp_n_size_browse-bin%3A3578042011&rnid=1232878011&s=tv&sprefix=tv%2Blg%2Caps%2C100&sr=1-1&th=1

Personally I hate these new "smart" TVs. I have an old 40" Samsung LCD that I bought in 2009 and it still works today. I keep it as a backup in case my TV fails. I need to always have a TV lying around because I use it as my monitor for my desktop, and I do everything on my desktop.

reply

Yes, I haven't heard much positives about "smart" TVs. They lag or slower. I won't buy one for sure.

I want to do a wall mount above my fireplace. Hopefully, not too expensive to hire someone to do that.

Yeah, using the actual Smart TV's features sucks. I don't bother with the Smart features, I just use it as a monitor and do everything on the desktop. My cousin uses his Smart TV to get on the internet and watch YouTube, Netflix, etc. and it sucks donkey dick. I don't know how he can stand it. The lag, the bugs, the lack of features, it's just such shit. I mean, take YouTube for example: On his TV you have to type letter by letter for a video, once you start watching it, it gets interrupted by ads, which you can't skip because there are no ad-blockers for Smart TVs. You also can't comment on the videos, in fact, you can't even see the comments. For me, this is unusable. I prefer having a computer that allows me to do anything and everything and the TV is just a simple monitor.

As for the wall mount, you could probably do it yourself; There are plenty of YouTube videos that will give you the step by step. But of course if you have the money you could hire a professional and save yourself the trouble. Me personally I use a stand. I have the TV like 8' up in my bedroom. With a stand you can swivel the TV in both directions. You could raise it up or down, and it's easy to take it down and put another one up if it fails.

Good to know. It just seems difficult to find a non-smart TV these days. I'm looking online on BestBuy and vast majority are smart TVs. :(

What is a good store to buy a TV? Is Amazon.com a good option? I'm in Canada.

reply

I don't think you can buy non-smart TVs anymore. The only thing you can get, that is not smart, is a large computer monitor (like 40"). They do have those in Micro Center (I don't know if they have these in Canada).
As far as regular stores, I bought my TV at Best Buy and the other one in Walmart. But the next one I'll probably just order on Amazon, this way I could just have it delivered and if I want to return it, they'll just come by and pick it up.

I don't know much about Canada so I couldn't tell you the best place to buy, but Amazon should word fine.

You will need a stud locator and make sure you screw the mount to studs in the wall, not just drywall.

Signed, million man.

I have found this site useful. If you put the model you are considering in the search box, they probably have a review of it.

The last time I needed a TV, I just went down to the local Target and said "Just give me something [states size], that's not a goddamn Smart TV."

It cost $175, it's just the right size for the foot of the bed, and it's done a perfectly adequate job for 3-4 years. If it survives until the kitten grows up, it'll be a complete win.

reply

How long was this ago and what was the size? I couldn't find a non smart TV that is over 40" after 2019.

reply

Uh, 3-4 years? and the TV is huge, like 4' wide, my vision is poor so I like a TV that's so large I can see the picture with my glasses off at the foot of the bed.

But I'm the furthest thing from an expert on the modern TV market, like I said I just went down to the local Target. Oh, but my other TV is smaller, it has to fit on a given shelf, and nobody stocked the things. So I ordered one the right size online.

reply

That's interesting. I never checked Target, but when I was in Best Buy (2019), they had no 'non-smart' TV's that were bigger than 40".

reply

You can probably order any size and configuration conceivable online, but if you order through Best Buy or Target, you can have the thing delivered to a local store to be picked up. So, you know, it's not left out for the Porch Pirates.

Samsung are excellent.

I've got a 2k LG 32" LCD that I bought in 2015 (non-smart), along with a 2k Sony BluRay(smart).

Been thinking about upgrading to a larger screen, maybe a 50".

reply

If you got one around you, buy your TV from Costco - they have a great return policy.
