I held a door open for a gray pigeon

I held the door open at the shopping mall. It had a blank stare on it's face and didn't even say thanks! It wobbled right in as if I wasn't even there. No appreciate at all.

reply

I actually did something like that once. It was cold out, but they still weren't interested in going inside....

reply

Maybe they thought it was a trap and you'd close the door and capture it. :)

reply

Perhaps. I wouldn't be surprised.

They do tend to be rude. And the way they strut around with their chest all puffed out, acting like they own the joint, unspeakably ugly behavior.

reply

After you give them food, they'd hang out and wait for more.

reply

Fucking freeloaders.

reply

Oh no, more 'variant title threads"!!😱

reply

Seems reading from other peoples' posts, they have legitimate and similar experiences. The highly acclaimed tv series 'Animaniacs' (1993) showcased how negative pigeons can be, generally towards humans and their local environment.

reply

Yah, the pigeon thing actually happened, but I didn't think about it until I read some of the other people's posts on here.

reply

It's become part of the Zeitgeist, people's collective consciousness, making more and more aware. It's happening.

reply

You know what's strange,

I was thinking if anyone out there would think it was an automatic door instead of me just opening the door, and boom, you got it.

Then I was thinking if anyone would think that that experience with the pigeon I had was a similar experience that others had instead of me just making fun of the other posts, and boom, you got it.

And then I was thinking about those two coincidences and how people having a collective consciousness, and BOOM, you got it!

What are the odds of that?

reply

The odds are prolly 80/20. 80 out of 20.

reply

What is even more insulting is that automatic doors only slide open for humans, some dogs, and maybe cats but not for gray pigeons.

reply

Actually, it was an automatic sliding door, but I said I held the door open to make me myself sound like a respectable person. But yah, that door wasn't opening for that pigeon. It was waiting there for someone to come by so the sliding door would open as if it's been to that mall before.

reply

Every legend and hero's tale has a tiny bit of omission for the sake of story. What you did for that gray pigeon was very respectful, which makes you also very respectful; however, said pigeon lacks any respectability in my book.

On a political note, yes, I believe local governments and businesses/corporations should recalibrate sliding doors to open for pigeons in general, not just for "gray" ones, imo. Pigeons tend to travel and post around a two-to-three-mile area, depending on the location and local climate -- and should have some responsibility to ensure their right to travel.

reply

A shopping mall? Was it 1987?

reply

It was automatic doors, but I just wanted to sound good so I said I held the door open.

reply

Everyone knows gray pigeons are the rudest. Try your luck with black crows.

reply

Good idea.

reply

I’m happy to open the door for a female pigeon, but if some male pigeon thinks I’m going to open the door for them they are mistaken.

reply

How can you tell whether a pigeon is male or female?

reply

Sexist pig.

reply

I just realize how I can tell.......... just go up to it and ask.

reply

Are you fluent in cooing?

reply

Yes!
