Do you give strangers money when they ask?
Yes or no, and why?
shareNot always, but I have several times in the past. I’m lucky enough not to miss a few dollars and I figure if someone is at a place in their life where they are so desperate that they’ve abandoned all pride and have to beg to get by, then they need it more than I do.
Of course I have at times wondered what they are actually going to spend it on and whether I have just aided them in feeding an addiction of some sort, but generally I just hope that it helps them or at the very least means they can put some food in their belly. I don’t take it for granted that were it not for good fortune I myself could be in a position where I didn’t have anywhere to sleep or know where my next meal is going to come from.
Not anymore. There's a lot of videos around showing people helping others on the street. Some are genuine and some are staged. But regardless it's supposed to have a feel good appeal to them. So when some dude asked me for money one day in the parking lot somewhere, I didn't have any money on me so I had to tell him sorry I don't have any money. And then as I was leaving the parking lot I remembered that I had a shitload of change in the bottom of my purse because when I would get coins I would just throw them in my purse and let them collect at the bottom. So at that moment I thought about those videos and I was like, you know what, fuck it I'm going to give him my change even though that's all the money I had in the world at that particular moment. So I swung around and go back over and give him a nice big handful of change and I said here is the change that was in the bottom of my purse. Instead of thanking me, the fucker had the nerve to say hey you got another big handful of change in the bottom of your purse? I was so fucking pissed I was like that's all the money I had in the world. At that point he thanked me. I was so turned off by that that I've never given anybody a fucking thing after that. And then he saw me another time and he came to the car and he tried to ask me for money and then he stopped. He was like oh yeah, I've asked you before and then he knew not to ask me. So no, I don't give shit to these motherfuckers anymore. There's this one bitch that frequents the Aldi's parking lot. She walks around with a cane and she will literally stand in front of your car as you're trying to leave and bug you for money. I screamed at the top of my lungs bitch get the fuck out of my way. She knows better than to ask me for a freaking thing anymore. Fuck them.
shareI've had the same thing happened to me. The person asked me for money, I gave, then the person asked if I had more. And also a person recognized me and realized I already gave and walked away.
I still give money to strangers. All of them are different. Most of them aren't like the one's you or I experienced. A couple bad eggs doesn't represent most of them.
I don't give a fuck.
shareSimilar situation here. Too many beggars are ungrateful and hostile where I live. Give a dollar and they want $3. It's very rare if I give anything now. I'll make an exception for someone who is obviously homeless.
shareno i need my money, back when i was trying to quit ciggies i would always hook them up with tobacco tho. i used to give away a lot of ciggies as a way to help me quit. sometimes i would buy a pack chainsmoke 2 of the ciggies then give the 18 ciggies away to the first smoker i could find
shareWomen, yes. I’ll give a girl bum a dollar or two and a cigarette if she asks nicely.
Why? I’m surrounded and completely
OVERRUN by women. I’ve got the wife, the daughter, the mother, the mother in law, the sister and the various sisters in law plus all of the female coworkers…none of them ever
back off…women are like The Terminator, they don’t quit!
Homeless Ladies push you because they seem to understand that a man won’t punch out their lights when they get too pushy.
Begging Men, fuck no. Get a job and be a man!
I’ll give a man hobo a smoke sometimes but I feel judgmental about it, The Bronx is full of shameful man bums.
No. If you live around, or work around areas where people do this, you get to know who is who, and those people are all addicts. When people think of the homeless that seems to picture someone that is poor and hungry. But I think that those people asking for money are rare. To put it simply I just don’t trust them. I’m all for helping people, but this is not the way.
