SO YOUR POST INSPIRED ME TO WATCH THE MOSQUITO COAST...THE DVD WAS ON MY TO WATCH SHELF...GREAT MOVIE...THAT IS BASICALLY ABOUT HARRISON FORD GOING INSANE AND TORTURING HIS FAMILY?
shareI haven’t seen this movie since it came out in the late 80s but yep, Ford played a dopey utopian numbskull that endangered his whole family…which is the exact opposite of how a Man should treat his family.
He seemed pretty nuts in this one but it was a good performance, he just played an idiotic fool and he was tough to root for.
I WENT IN EXPECTING A DIFFERENT CHARACTER...TOTALLY FLIPPED ME UP AS THE FILM WENT ON...NOW I AM STRUGGLING TO RECONTEXTUALIZE THE FIRST TWO THIRDS OF THE FILM WHEN I EXPECTED HIM TO BE BETTER SHORTLY.
shareHe had a prophet complex and a huge dose of narcissism coursing through his veins, comparisons to the tragedies at Waco and Jamestown are welcome because some maniacs are charming bastards and only fools trust them. It never ends well though.
We have a tenuous, somewhat functioning society Amigo, we’re not going anywhere.
America is here forever.
If some crazy maniac wants
to drag dozens of families out to a ranch or into an inhospitable jungle and they buy in then that mess is on them.
What sort of broken Men bring their families to a freakoid outpost? None that I know personally.
You work, maintain property, lease crummy cars because cars are built for shit now. Lease cars for 3 years and beat them like they owe you money. Then turn them in wet and muddy.
Lunatics complicate everything.
Hard to say. I like the original 3 Star Wars movies, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Last Crusade, and the Fugitive equally.
