I’ve never been there but isn’t Coney Island world famous?

It is, but a significant part of it was destroyed by hurricane Sandy in 2012. There have been a number of projects aimed at rebuilding/renewing it, but I'm not sure how successful they've been, nor what its current status is.

Coney Island is a randomly-created amusement park. It’s not a coherent theme park like Disney or Universal.

Hell, by your logic, the Los Vegas Strip is a “theme park;” and actually more nearly coordinated (“themed”) than Coney Island, because 20 years ago Steve Wynn set out to make Los Vegas a family destination.

You might argue that Vegas resorts like The Bellagio The Rio and the MGM Grand are theme parks.

Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida is another one. We enjoyed going there when we lived in Tampa, but that was a long time ago.

There used to be one in Nevada based on the TV show Bonanza but I don’t know how good it was.
