Yes, it’s a delicious choice…Hmmm, I’m going to eat some tasty animals this evening because of this post…I have pork, beef, salmon and chicken in the freezer, I’m gonna eat all of these animals, where should I start?

reply

Why not have them all - invite us.

reply

I have the space, swing on by!

reply

Sorry I couldn't make it last night, but my private jet was out of service - sigh. Perhaps another time.

Outstanding! I'm a charter member of PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals! What, no lamb?

😎

reply

If we don't eat them, the other animals will.

Circle of life, yo. It's sucks, but there's nothing that can be done.

reply

And. We are omnivores get over it.

[deleted]

Posting about the choice to eat meat is also a choice.

reply

[deleted]

Yes I agree, it is a very tasty choice.

reply

What's the problem? Did someone force their sausage down your throat?

reply

Maybe several “someones.”

reply

🤣

reply

[deleted]

No thanks, I only eat real meat.

reply

I disagree. Having experimented with a fully plant based diet for almost a year, its clear I felt better with animal products in my diet, therefore eating animals is required for my health and well being.

reply

That's why you have canines. Canines are for tearing flesh. If meat products weren't part of our dietary requirement we would never have evolved purpose-built teeth to tear flesh. Vegans don't seem to understand this.

reply

I’ve been saying this for years.

reply

I've never heard you say that. Not once.

reply

This is why we need a search facility on this site; in the past when there have been similar threads, I've said similar things myself.

reply

I didn't even hear what you just said, 'cause you didn't say it. "la la la la."

reply

Right, Ignored and Reported for being a wiseguy, lol.

reply

Google has a lot of tricks up its sleeve for fine tuning your searches that a lot of people are oblivious to .
the "site" function is quite helpful
typing this into google:
site:moviechat.org "canines"

will do , well , what it says on the tin

Google is often better at searching a site than the site's own search facility

reply

I already use Google in this capacity, but still a great tip!

reply

What about gorillas? They have canines and eat a vegetarian diet.

reply

That's what evolution does to vegans. Turns 'em into gorillas.

reply

lol

reply

Gorillas have large canines in order to tear bark off trees. Have you ever needed to tear bark off trees with your teeth? No? Therefore your canines serve a different purpose: tearing flesh off bones. My argument still stands. Humans are omnivores. 😊

reply

I agree humans are omnivores, but I disagree with the reason why we have canines.

As for the gorillas canines, my point was that having these teeth often has nothing to do with a species being an omnivore/carnivore. They serve all sorts of purposes.

reply

Touche. This is news to me. We were taught that our canines are for tearing flesh in biology in high school years ago and I never imagined that stance would ever change. You have taught me something new.

reply

That's one of the things keeping me from going full vegan, the fact that a fully plant-based diet is nutritionally lacking, our bodies require certain vitamins and minerals that you can't get from a plant diet. And no, the animal-food substitutes like impossible burgers and soy milk may taste like animal products, but they offer none of the nutrition.

So I'm a vegetarian who eats eggs and dairy products, partly for the animal-based nutrients and partly because they'll pry the cheese from my cold dead hands!!! But there's no need to kill animals and eat their corpses, people can do just fine without eating carrion.

reply

You can technically get all of those vitamins and minerals from plant foods - - except for B12 - - but it's extremely hard and not practical for the average person. Its a lot of work. I was honestly miserable during that time period and had constant cravings. Adding in eggs/dairy like you're doing makes a lot more sense. I'd even suggest throwing in some fish and other seafood if you're you're not opposed to that. I think this is what's referred to as a Pescatarian diet and is very well rounded and healthy.

reply

I will confess to the occasional shellfish, because they don't really have nervous systems, and if I ever break down and get lox on my occaisonal morning bagel I won't beat myself up. But the fact is, a vegetarian diet isn't just more nutritious than a plant-based one, it's a hell of a lot tastier. I don't need bacon, if I can have cheese!

Frankly, a lot of vegetarians and vegans are crazy about it all, they beat themselves up if they found they've ingested a molecule of animal protien. But really, if you think about it, eating a 99% or 90% or 80% meatless diet benefits the animals a LOT more than that last 1%! Anyone who beats themself up for an occasional dietary indiscretion is thinking more about their self-image than the animals who are or aren't getting killed.

reply

Oh, I hear ya. The militant vegans out there are aggressive and unreasonable with anyone who deviates from their strict mindset. If anything, they give a bad name to people who are trying to cut down or eliminate meat from their diet for whatever personal reasons.

As for shellfish, big fan! I wish I could afford scallops more often, but the prices have skyrocketed recently, even here on the coast where you can get them from the fish mongers right off the boats. Looking up the price right now, the day boat scallops are going for $22/lb.

reply

I ought to make oyster stew or chowder one of these days, I've got canned oysters lying around the house, but they're more of a winter dish and we're getting into "It's too hot to cook" weather around here.

But yeah, the strict vegans suffer from an absolutist or perfectionist mindset, and I can't imagine a more miserable way to live than believing you're worthless if you ever fail to live up to your self-imposed rules. Sure, they make everyone they know, but they make themselves even more miserable so I can't hate them too much. All I do is avoid them.

reply

I bet vegan flesh is very tasty, especially when it’s smoked over redwood.

I eat animals because I like to. I LOVE tearing apart a whole animal, like a lobster or Rock Cornish hen. I love the nature documentaries that show weak, inferior animals being devoured alive by superior predators.

OP, have you enjoyed Live Lobster Sushi? They bring a live, fresh lobster to your table and you and your party carve it up and devour it while it flips around. Yum! SO atavistic!!
