movie you first hated, but now adore

for me 'The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie' (1972)
i didn't get it at all. thought it was just BS

after a few years i caught some other Buñuel works, watched this again.. and damn now it's one of my absolute favorites

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). I remember not really being that impressed with it first time I saw it. Can't recall why. Saw it again years later & absolutely loved it.

It's currently my favorite Wes Anderson film.

I wasn’t a fan of The Beach when I saw it in theaters and now it’s probably my favorite Leonardo DiCaprio movie.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

I disliked Pulp Fiction the first time I saw it

I'm not a big fan of indirect timelines, this annoys me greatly

Just tell the story!!

ETA: Irreversible is an exception, as difficult as that was to get through I thing the reverse order of scenes worked in it's favor

i remember hearing the OST before seeing the film. my uncle had the CD lying around and i just loved the songs.

first time i saw Pulp Fiction was kind of funny because i already knew some of the 'key' dialogue
anyway i enjoyed it- except for the blueberry pancakes part obvi

the first austin powers had that effect, or affect, not sure if I am using it right lol

it was so stupid you had to change your mind about it

None that I can think of. I’ve certainly appreciated some films more over time, but if I really hate a movie I leave it at that and don’t revisit it again. Why punish yourself when there are so many other movies to discover?

reply

well in my case i discovered the entire Buñuel opus.
so yes, revisiting, opened my mind to other movies.

The Green Knight (2021).

At first, I was expecting a movie about a hero and his adventure. To my surprise, it turned out to be a story about the underdog and how he fails at every single task on his journey to greatness. Now, the more I think about what would be the right thing for young Gawain to do, the more I appreciate the film.

Only one I can think of is How To Train Your Dragon (2010). Hated the animation style, found the story boring, nothing really clicked for me. Watched it almost 10 years later, am now a huge fan of the trilogy.
