Good actors with bad filmographies

After watching the completely average remake of The Witches over the weekend, it made me think of how much I like Octavia Spencer as an actress and how few of her films are actually any good. The last few films I’ve seen her in (Ma, Thunder Force, Dolittle and The Witches) have all ranged from ordinary to awful.

What other good actors can you think of that seem to churn out bad movies?

reply

Adrien Brody has made some horrendous movies.

Bruce Willis for the last 15 years has purposely sabotaged his own career.

Adam Sandler can actally act, but would rather do ridiculously unfunny voices and act like he's mentally handicapped.

There are many more, but those are off the top of my head.

Why do you consider all of those movies bad? I can understand not liking them, but all of them bad? I respectfully disagree.

reply

They're not "Gigli" or "Norbit" bad, but I wouldn't say these are good. Especially for a legendary actress.

reply

I guess I've just seen so many bad movies that I don't consider most of those bad. I mean She-Devil, yeah, that was pretty bad, but most of the others are still okay.

reply

Oh c'mon, 'THE DINGO TOOK MY BABY!!' is some award worthy work bro

reply

She was nominated for an Oscar for it after all.

reply

She's nominated constantly!
Such an awards hog lol

JK, she deserves the applause

reply

Ooh.. controversial!

I respect your opinion but I wouldn’t say any of those you listed were bad. In fact, Postcards From the Edge, The Bridges of Madison County and Evil Angels (or A Cry in the Dark, if you must use the Yanky title) are among my favourites.

Oh, hang on, I just noticed The Giver on your list. Yeah, I’ll give you that one, that was a stinker!

reply

As I mentioned above to another user, they're not in the same territory as "Gigli" or "Norbit" levels of bad, but I wouldn't say any of those are actually good. They're all pretty boring and I expect more from a legend.

vince vaughn, maybe? i'm not a fan or anything, but i've certainly liked at least a few movies he's been in.

hacksaw ridge

all pretty good/great, and he's absolutely good in all of them imo.

but when i look at his filmography, it looks like an endless line of things i'd never, ever want to watch. middling dramas, bland thrillers, unfunny comedies.

reply

Yes, absolutely agreed. He seems to be on a Nic Cage career trajectory. Get a new agent Vince!!
