I've got dumbass young guy memories of this wonderful song. I knew a lovely older lady named Angie, she was the 'Mom' of our neighborhood and after her funeral, on the way home from services, this song started playing on my radio (everyone was already a wreck)
It was all too much

The boys were slapping each other to stop crying, I caught several hits and I was driving...I drove immediately to the beer distributor and we got blasted and told fine stories about our favorite Angie...Angie is a Legend.

reply

that's sad.

I was wrecked, she was 'Mom' to the whole neighborhood of us wandering, late night teens

That same week that she died a local boy we were all fond of committed suicide with his big brother's .44 Mag...totally unrelated, he did not know Angie but I briefly dated his sister and a lot of us kids were very tight (this one still hurts)

Angie died within a few days of that boy and we were all reeling man, it was too damn much...sitting on the couches at another buddy's house, drunk as can be, the News broke into whatever dumb shit we were watching with
'Princess Diana killed in auto wreck...'

It was surreal...I don't know why but we all busted out laughing

Weird but true.

Sometimes all you can do is laugh

reply

You have some sad memory there buddy but also it's sound like you had a great friends in the neighborhood.

It's sad that in most neighborhoods today there are any sense of community anymore like in the old days.

reply

Kind words, much obliged Amigo

Lots of our memories are sad and maybe we all get a bit nostalgic

Life is grand,
We are all pretty similar

I've recently helped the neighbor man with moving lumber for a project and his fallen tree...I agree, we need to keep a sense of community alive

That's all we really have, sweat and good will

I had a friend of mine's sister who's name is Angie, so when I picked up the phone at their house and she said it was "Angie" I started riffing on the Stones tune.
She said something like - I haven't heard that in a long time.
And this was probably over 20 years ago.

reply

Great song
I'm going to play it now (I got one of those Alexa things in the garage now👍)

reply

Did you say "garage" or "garbage"?

When I meet a New Girl (Alexa)
That I want for mine
She always breaks my heart in two
It happens every time !
