John Cena

Okay, I don't get what the big deal is here. He was doing promotional stuff for "work" and said something his bosses wanted him to apologize for, so he apologized. Why is this an issue? He wasn't making a political statement of his own beliefs or anything he was promoting Fast 9. Why does it make him a pussy to choose not to die on that hill?

reply

It's the internet. It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining or making something political.

Some people can't accept China is new geopolitical boss and Cena is just being pragmatic. US is only a former empire which is declining fast, it's like the old Aristocrats during the Industrial Revolution, unable to accept history had left them behind. In a few decades, US will be a mix between an African shithole and a South-American shithole (demographics matters). Many people still think in terms of China vs US, but that battle is long gone. US has already lost. In a few decades US won't even play in that league, it'll play the league of countries like Brazil, Mexico or India.

That's a bitter pill to swallow, though. Let's hope it doesn't take a war to learn it.

says the crabby racist guy at the end of the bar. he's got it all figured out.

reply

its one of the more astute things he's said though
it could happen!

Some people can't accept China is new geopolitical boss

That's because they aren't...yet. Lots of people will be dead when that actually happens.

reply

America is in moral decline and more divided than ever, but is still a military super power with the means to take out China.

reply

It was the groveling nature of the apology.

P.S. Taiwan IS a country.

reply

Taiwan is a Schrödinger country, it exists and it doesn't exist at the same time.

China is gonna take it sooner or later. The match is finished. Taiwan is just enjoying some added time.

reply

Taiwan is one of the world's leading suppliers of semiconductors. If China were to attempt a military takeover, it would be war for certain...and China doesn't want to engage in an actual war with the US and a likely UN allied force.

reply

Not yet. China would probably win that war, but it would take a huge toll. They can slowly increase the pressure and take it in a few decades without risk.

US army is aging fast. And the last meritocratic generation is retiring. In a few decades, the US army will be a bunch of incompetent people using a pile of junk.

Think South Africa. Several decades ago, South African army was small in size, but extremely effective, one of the best in the world. Right now, the SA Air Force can't even take off. It took only three decades of black rule, so you know the future of US and how fast you're gonna be there. China knows it too. And btw, when I say it can't even take off, this is no joke. The South African air force is unoperative right now:

Same could be said of any country though.

Cena had the audacity to call Taiwan a "country." That's it. That is his big sin. Chinese bots and opinion schill army demanded that he apologize and say the words "Taiwan is a part of China." He has grovelled as best he could since then. Do what China says because your movie box-office take is dependent on them.
The Chinese civil war that saw Taiwan proclaim independence never officially ended. The people of Taiwan are free. They soon won't be. See how China took Hong Kong during Covid while saying "fuck you" to the world? That will happen very soon with Taiwan. It will happen the next time there is a big global event. China has no moral compass. They enslave people. They violate human rights like the beat of a drum.

Look up what the people of Hong Kong have gone and are going through. Then thank whatever gods you have that you don't live there under communist rule.

I know Cena is just an employee and must do what they say since it is all about money. But the flippancy of the whole ordeal is maddening because it is actually about the freedom of a whole country. A person of stronger moral fiber might have said "Fuck the money, fire me. This is wrong." Would I have? I don't know. If I was making a million bucks off the movie, I might have searched for some excuse to absolve myself. ... and so it goes.

reply

Taiwan is a country. Kind of a big deal. Especially to those who live there. And his groveling to a ruthless authoritarian government is more than a little unseemly. In fact, he showed us all what a pussy he really is.

reply

Are you willing to lose your job over Taiwan being a country?

reply

Yes. China is the next Nazi Germany.

reply

Nazi Germany lost the war, and US wrote history.

But China is gonna be the one that writes history in the future. So chances are US will be the next Nazi Germany. That's how it works: the winner decides who were the good and the bad guys.

reply

China is the new Nazi Germany. If the US writes history then how come almost all of it is negative about America?

reply

I think he made a wise financial decision. By the time FF9 rolls around Cena must have gross points, so why piss off a country that controls potentially a billion ticket buyers.

reply

OK. What if China demanded that he say "blacks are not real people?" Would it still be a wise financial decision?

reply

Of course not. That's not a fair argument.

reply

I think the studio would have had something to say about that. I just think that when China is pretty much your biggest customer, is this the hill you choose to die on?

reply

Yes.

reply

I applaud you for that.

I think that when it comes to millions of dollars in movie deals, endorsements, and appearances, most people would think twice before throwing that all away.

reply

... but the freedom of an entire country is no big deal.

reply

What Cena says or doesn't say about Taiwan is meaningless. Get USA and China in a room and try to work it out. If Taiwan declared their independence and China attacked them should the USA declare war on them?

reply

Taiwan is our official ally. If they are attacked by anyone, we are "supposed" to come to their aid. However, we didn't come to Georgia's aid when Russia invaded them and they were our ally as well. Things didn't change much there, before or after. But the citizens of Taiwan will lose their freedom just like the people of Hong Kong did if China takes over.

"Get USA and China in a room and try to work it out." Do you know what China is like? This is an old issue and China is resolute. They don't care what anyone has to say. Taiwan is theirs in their opinion and they outright say that they will take it back. No amount of "feel good" resolutions nor good intentions will change this.

Allowing China to dictate rules of what can and can't be said is ludicrous. He who controls the language controls reality. To play this game with them is to signal to the world that taking Taiwan is agreeable. It is a shame that the narrative will now be filtered through Hollywood. Fucking Hollywood.

reply

shouldve waved his had in front of his face and said china you cant see me!
