People who claim to have memories of being a two year old?
I don't believe them.
shareI don't know about that. I have a very vivid visual memory of my bedroom when I was a just a little over two. There aren't any people involved - no special event - it's really like a snapshot.
I was still in a crib and once I asked my parents about where my crib was located in my bedroom at that age and they confirmed that before I was 2 1/2 and they moved me into a regular bed, my crib was in the location I remembered it being. Once I was in a regular bed it was placed in another location.
I remember having my ears pierced for my 2nd birthday, where it was done and what was on the dressing table at the time.
Also later being in a ballet shop and looking at the little teddy bears in the window display and they wouldn't let me have one and I couldn't understand why I couldn't have one if they were in a shop, because shops were for buying things from.
I have one very vivid, specific memory from when I was about 18 months.
shareI have vague memories of myself at 2.
shareYou think you remember them but it’s actually just pictures you saw.
shareor what your parents tell you
shareNo - I asked them about the memory and if my crib was placed where I remember it. My parents would never have talked about my bedroom - where furniture was placed - they had absolutely no interest in things like that.
shareWhy are you so convinced that it's not real?
sharefor one - when my younger sister was born in 1966, i was three. it was a tough pregnancy and my mother was in the hospital and bedridden for months. her aunt came to live with us and i have no memory of any of this. my two oldest brothers confirms she stayed and looked after us for months.
shareSo just because you don't remember something, you think it's impossible for others to remember things?
a form of false memory syndrome.
shareAnd you have proof that no one could possibly remember anything?
sharei know people who have been in car accidents and fires as 2 and 3 year olds and they remember nothing.
shareThat doesn't mean that there aren't people who don't. Sure, there are false memories, and a lot of memories associated with images, but children's brains are different and no brain develops at the same rate or the same way. So, just because most people don't remember the same way, it doesn't mean that it's impossible.
shareNope - I don't have a single photo of my bedroom at that age or even older.
shareMy earliest vivid memories are around age 4.
shareI don't have a specific memory, but I do remember being in my crib.
shareI remember, because I was hospitalized at the time. Mind you, I don't have a crystal clear, vivid memory like it was yesterday. I just vaguely recall having to drink something disgusting out of a paper cup that looked like water but was medicine. So, I do remember that.
