Best TV Show That Only Lasted One Season?

For me, Freaks And Geeks.

Honorable Mention: Garth Marenghi's Darkplace

reply

I’ll agree with Freaks and Geeks.

Maybe not great shows but two I enjoyed that deserved more are Surface and Flashforward.

The Living and the Dead - the BBC had something different here, but for whatever reason they only made the one short series.
It had good people in, looked gorgeous and was an intriguing story....which annoyingly ended on a cliff hanger which set it up for the second series!

Death Valley (2011), it's one of those jewels that almost anybody knows. It's a fucking hilarious show about a police station in a world with zombies, vampires and werewolves. I watch it again once in a while.

Interesting. You're right, never heard of it. Wonder if it was inspired by the success of The Walking Dead which debuted in 2010? Thanks for the recommendation.

Noticed Bryan Callen was in it. He's terrific as the Phys Ed coach on The Goldbergs.

The style is very similar to Reno 911, but with supernatural beings, and... better (though that's my opinion).

I agree that it was probably greenlighted after TWD success. The problem was that it was MTV the ones that distributed it, so everybody thought it would be some stupid shitty zombie show for teens. When word of mouth started to spread, it was already cancelled.

Bryan Callen is simply brilliant. I didn't know of him until I watched this show, but here he steals it every time he's on the screen.

My So-Called Life (1994)

Don’t know if these series are planning a second season yet, but they were excellent one hit wonders too:

Your Honor (2020)
The Queen’s Gambit (2020)

reply

I just remembered another one. VR.5.

I honestly don't remember enough of it to know how good it was, but I do remember the cliff hanger ending. I think they had an episode that aired later on that I never caught as I don't think that it did air in my country.

Ah, Laurie Singer. The FX were impressive for a low-budget project.

Flashforward
Bunheads
Terra Nova
The Night Of
Caprica
The Event
Forever
Earth 2
Backstrom
Emerald City
The Lone Gunmen
Wisdom Of The Crowd

reply

I remember being intrigued by the premise of The Event, but never got around to watching it. Did you see it when it aired or on DVD?

reply

When it first aired.

It's always annoying when a series starts to take off either in the first or 2nd season (if it got one) but they then cancel it.

There's an even bigger 2nd season cancellation list.

reply

Agreed. Always a shame when good storylines don't get wrapped up like they deserve.

A gaga goo

The Lone Gunmen may not have been the best but it was what I thought of initially. It certainly got a raw deal.

reply

Giving away the plot to 911 before it happened was probably it's a downfall.

I loved Emerald City, though I felt that Dorothy was seriously miscast. The visuals were stunning and sumptuous. Having Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon playing when Dorothy first met the Wizard was inspired; but Ana Ularu’s West (as in Wicked Witch of the ...) was an inspired triumph. We have an Emerald City area on MC, if you’d like to visit.

Lucky Louie? (2006) The actor with the red hair starred.

You have to have a good memory or you can look it up on google.

reply

yeah i really liked that one.

Wonderfalls
Firefly
Surface

I know people have heard of Firefly but not many have heard of the other two. Wonderfalls is absolutely amazing and beautiful. LOVE IT. Surface is a great sci fi show that should have went 2 or 3 years.

Sad now.

reply

I remember Wonderfalls! It really was a beautiful show. Caroline Dhavernas was/still is lovely.
