Had a total knee replacement 3 days ago and going home today. Yesterday , my IV pump beeped for 90 friggin minutes and I hit the call button 5x before someone finally came to reset it. On admission, I was poked (not in a good way )12x before they used ultrasound to locate a decent vein. I could go on and on. I think I'm traumatized.
Oh, sorry. I've had surgery myself and felt like I was dying. I didn't do myself any favours thinking that. Once your knee is healed up, you'll look back on the experience and it won't seem so bad because you know how well it turns out.
I had a total knee replaced a year ago last February. Sorry you had such a rough time, my surgery and hospital stay, (1 overnight), went very well.
I had a quick recovery - at 10 weeks I was back to 95% of normal, then I made a BIG mistake. We took a cruise to Hawaii, which was pre approved by my doctor, and we flew to Vancouver with a connection in Minneapolis. My husband requires the use of a transport chair, which I usually push, but I requested a pusher for him for this trip. I was only pulling a small carry-on and the guy was walking fast - I should have told him to slow down, but I didn't and that was my fault. By the time we reached our gate I could hardly walk - I pulled something.
To make a long story short, by the time I got home I had to start therapy all over again and it took me months to get back to where I was at 10 weeks. So be careful. Do your exercises and therapy and if you start improving take it easy and don't do what I did.
Thanks for the caution and well wishes. I think this surgeon was a bit restrictive with the post op meds. I just looked at all the meds I came home with and there's only a week's worth of pain meds. I live 2 hours away from Bangor where his office is located and I'm pretty sure hand-written rxs are the only ones filled these days. Oh brother.
