Not all women are like this, though. Some women are also protective of their younger counterparts. You just hear about the "catty" women because they are more loud and people love drama.

That kind of shit is rampant at work. It's usually the older ladies that stir up trouble I've noticed. There's a popular expression in nursing that "Nurses eat their young". Ever heard of that one?

I bet the "eating their young" part is true in any other profession and happens with males too.

My experience is the opposite. Older ladies used to be very reliable.

Of course, that can have changed last years. Modern culture has promoted living alone and focusing in your career. Older ladies can find that they're very unhappy once they hit their 50s, and feel resentful and bitter. But it didn't use to be like that.

Seriously, if you have a problem with people who dislike you, take a hard look at how likeable you really are.

Who said I had a problem? I'm a dude (hence the name "Eric"). This thread is about women treating other women badly which seems to be rampant in many workplaces.

Funny thing I've noticed... a lot of straight men just don't notice when attractive young women are being unlikable, difficult, or even catty.

Until they've been married for several years .

I honestly don't think they can help it. Sometimes they don't even mean it as they will be nice to each other later. It is very confusing especially for men who are more direct and consistent.

I don't believe its one way at all. Straight men worship young beautiful women so you expect everyone to do the same. That's why you never care or notice when they are being just as bad so you put all the blame on old women.

I don't agree with this question because it makes an unfair presumption about all women.

However, I do think many catty women are relegated to cattiness because expressing their distaste for or dislike of others in a more aggressive or honest way would be perceived as worse than cattiness. Women are generally expected to be the nicer or more civil of the sexes, so they can't necessarily speak as honestly as they would like. And definitely they're not expected to simply get into a fist fight and resolve their issues with brief violence, as many men are expected to do.
