Do you answer the door even when you're not expecting company?

I don't . I don't want to deal with solicitors or Jehovah Witnesses. If it's important, they will call me.

reply

I don’t have that problem. Nobody ever comes by here.

reply

Isolated house? I want a house like that. Would be perfect for an introvert like me.

reply

Very isolated. Deep in the woods, with no one else around.

reply

Nice! Not even any Bigfoot activity, lol?

reply

Coyotes, foxes, deer. No bigfoot. People in the area tell me they have seen bear, but I never have.

reply

Doesn't it get spooky at night time? Would be cool to watch horror movies at midnight sitting by fireplace snacking on popcorn. That nice cozy feeling.

reply

I don’t find it spooky. I like it. There have been the occasional times where I’m outside in the dark and something big moves. It’s always a deer, but there is the moment of surprise.

reply

Yes, it could be a neighbor in trouble and I dig my neighbors

If it's a Jehovah type with literature I politely inform them I have a religion I like just fine and they have always left without issue

I get a lot of political sorts too, I give them a minute, take their little flyers and tell them I have a chicken and potatoes in the stove and 'thanks, have a good day'

Never had a problem answering the door, besides, I like to know who is in my yard

I'll have to use that one. Takes a lot of guts to go door to door, so I try not to be rude. Scammers calling my house though, with the whole internet virus shtick, I enjoy fucking with them and wasting their time.

reply

The phone calls are the worst
I finally got rid of the landline and now they call my cell🙄

reply

I love doing this. When I get business scam calls at my office, I lead them on for as long as I have time. Agree to some things then put them on hold for abusive amounts of time. Sometimes I will mimic their accent and repeat everything they say back to them. I went from hating scam calls to loving them.

I always answer the front door. At worst I have to tell someone that I am NOT interested twice. Sometimes it's a neighbor returning a container of mine.

reply

I ask who it is.

reply

I normally answer the door but if it's for a topic I have no interest in, I just say I'm minding the house for my folks and they go on their merry way.

reply

I don't. People usually just want stuff and that's the only reason they contact me. I don't answer the phone either

reply

Only if I'm naked

reply

Where do you live 😁???

reply

In my house!! Hahahaha!

Would it deter you if I said naked, but singing showtunes?

reply

If I had the lyrics I might just join you!

reply

No and a stranger knocked on my door last Saturday.

I wish I would have answered because as it turned out it was a guy running for a local political office. My guess is he saw the Biden sign in my yard and thought I'd be a good person to chat with.

I didn't answer because I was baked and my house reeked of weed lol and I was paranoid.

I live in Indiana where the weed laws are anciently outdated and I also live in a neighborhood with a lot of Trump flags.

During a recent storm a giant tree branch fell on and damaged the roof of one of these Trump flag guys house, which made me chuckle a little bit like God was doing it on purpose but this is beside the point.

Anyways I didn't answer the door because one I was paranoid and two because I didn't recognize the guy and was worried it was a neighbor.

But the guy left a mailer on my door handle and his policies mentioned a lot of issues I agreed with and supported so I felt bad about not answering. His flyer even mentioned his favoring legalization so I could have probably invited him in for a joint and beer lol.

But generally no I don't answer the door.

reply

I don't understand the fascination with people putting political signs on their yard. Seems to be a 'Murica thing.

reply

They do it in Canada too. Not only are they an eye sore but they create so much garbage

reply

I used to live in near Detroit, Michigan from 2012 to 2016. And it was especially prominent in the suburbs where I lived (Grosse Pointe and St. Clair Shores). Detroit had a lot of Obama/Clinton signature but the suburbs had many Trump signs.

Not too much here where I live in BC. But I bet if I go to Alberta, there will probably be alot of anti-Trudeau signs there, lol.

reply

It's all about trying to sway people. Not sure how effective it is, but this election is kinda important.

reply

'but this election is kinda important'

They say that in EVERY election.

reply

Yeah, sure, I'm not hiding from anyone and if it's door to door religion I'm more than happy to have a chat, they never stay around too long once I get going :)

I never answer phone calls from a private number though - too many scammers out there. If it's important they always leave a message or text anyway.
