StoneKeeper's Summer Movie Guessing Game: I Recommend THIS Movie #1238 [Yellow Fangs (1990) Winner: hownos]

It can even be something like: both movies involve Cabbage Patch Kids. Hownos wins with Rimeinzu: Utsukushiki yuusha-tachi (1990), also known by its English title "Yellow Fangs" (under which it can be found on Netflix). Based VERY loosely on a true story, it's set in Japan's northern Hokkaido island in 1915, where a man-eating bear has begun terrorizing villagers and the locals struggle to find and kill it. The movie exaggerated it a great deal and shouldn't be taken very seriously, but despite that it's a rather entertaining popcorn flick. You get to see Hiroyuki Sanada in one of his earlier roles, and beautiful shots of the Hokkaido countryside. The actual event the movie was based on (known as the Sankebetsu brown bear incident) was rather less dramatic and drawn-out than the movie makes it out to be, though still an interesting if gruesome story and well-known in Hokkaido to this day.
