      Suicidal astronaut

What if an astronaut on the ISS decides to commit spectacular suicide by crashing the space station into a big city. Someone drilled a hole in the space station a while ago.

LOL - Only the Men in Black rely on tabloids as a legitimate source of information, but the idea of that happening would probably make for a good thriller.

Well, a pilot with suicidal tendencies did flew a plane into a mountain killing 150. An astronaut might do something similar.

Yeah, all the time spent on space makes you crazy.

I don't believe pilots have to go through the intense psychological evaluations that astronauts do. Not saying one might not snap but the gene pool is just different. Pilots are average people, astronauts are exceptional.

Remember this gal? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Nowak

And you might wanna have a look at this: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/nasa-has-plan-if-astronauts-lose-it/

From that article: "A couple of Soviet crews in past decades are believed to have experienced psychological problems." I remember seeing a news story that on one of the Mir missions, a cosmonaut got so whacked out that he wanted to open a window and let in some fresh air; but I can't locate it now.

i watched the movie about her recently. she had issues.

Still sounds like the likelihood of something catastrophic happening because someone becomes unhinged is very remote.

Astronauts are highly motivated and talented people so I agree, it's not likely they would go https://youtu.be/3L6i5AwVAbs

'Suicidal astronaut'

Nice name for a band

reply

A 'greatest made up garage band' thread would be a good time😀

Suicidal Astronaut is certainly a better choice than 'Constipated Astronaut'

Update on the mystery hole.

The Russian investigation found the cause of the hole, but they are keeping it secret.

"What happened is clear to us, but we won't tell you anything," Rogozin said
Dmitry Rogozin is head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos. So they fucked up and are too embarrassed to reveal the hilarious details. I bet NASA is extra happy they soon have SpaceX rockets to blast astronauts into orbit.
