I have come to the conclusion that there will be no sports this year.

The American states opened too soon and they can't get their act together

I will be shocked if we don't have the NFL and college football in some form this year.

reply

i hope i am wrong. baseball looks very doubtful.

reply

I think you are right, but IMO that is more about the players and the union than C19. Baseball is not a contact sport like football or basketball, so should be easy to play, but hold the spit balls for now.

reply

I think there will be NFL football in empty or partially filled stadiums, but college football is something I'm not too sure of.
Clemson University has 21 players who have tested positive and the University of Texas has 13.

hownos, are you telling me that you're not following Korean baseball on ESPN, or is that something that is not shown on your side of the border?

reply

Well if the college football players are testing positive before the season starts, then that is great news - not to start a debate about who might get seriously ill from C19, but those guys are probably the least likely to have a serious case. Get it now and play football in the fall. I do hope they are isolating and not spreading to those at risk.

reply

Hope u are wrong but with each week I'm starting to doubt it myself.

reply

The more I see sports complexes shutting down and players admitting they have Covid, I am with you.

reply

The NFL will certainly try... even if it means playing in empty stadiums. There is too much money that will be lost if the Super Bowl gets canceled.

Yep... everything is about the money.

reply

I still think the plan of having about 15,000 spectators in stadiums built to hold 70,000+ is reasonable and safe - at least outdoors.

reply

Yes I agree, team sports will be out.

Most of these athletes are multi-millionaires, so they can take a year off without a financial hit. Many will have fun on their yachts.

Owners will only want to play if they can make money.

Without crowds, that means offering players a diminished salary.

I figure that players have all the leverage.

If you were a player with a 10 million net worth, would you want to play for a diminished salary and possibly get covid and infect your family?

I say most won't, they are fat cats that can take a year off and have fun partying with bikini models on their super yachts.

reply

And nothing of value was lost.
