Why are Asians smart?

They seem to linger after a thought has terminated for most other people and see things from a wider scope than many of younger generations.

reply

It's more about diligence.

reply

What a nice compliment!

reply

'Asian' encompasses around two thirds of the Earth's population... do you mean all of them or something more specific?

reply

I think the OP is referring to people of East Asia, such as Japanese, Chinese, Koreans.

reply

They may be more Oriental, in a way, good point! I don't know if some South Asian countries are more like Middle Easterners. Some are by India.

reply

That's something of a stereotype. Not all Asians are smart, but all have the concept of hard work drilled into their heads at a young age, even if raised here in America. All are pushed to do very well in primary/secondary school and college. There are such things as dumb Asians, and Asians of average intelligence, we just don't see them as often here in the States. Even among 2nd and 3rd generation Asian Americans, they still work very hard with their schooling and later their jobs. You're more likely to find the not-so-smart Asians in their native countries than outside of them.

reply

My Asian wife says hi.

Cultures are very different then one another.
Some are hard working and very driven while others are more lazy and live off the land type

Before high speed travel these cultures were given a slice of land and we could see what accomplishments they did for themselves.

Today you see some going into space and creating medicine while other still throw rocks during war.

Asians look at their children's future as their accomplishment or failure.

Child becomes doctor or a person of a respectable position then you succeeded.
Child works fast food and will never have a career. then you failed.

Very strict. dont talk to me until you doctor.

Since script isnt taught anymore. It's the Asian students primarily learning it on their own. And everything needs to be perfect... looks like a computer some of these hand writings.

reply

Very strict. dont talk to me until you doctor..

I just about did a spit-take on my coffee! All over my computer keyboard, NOT GOOD!

Combination of good genes/DNA, an inherited strong work ethic (in school), an inherited desire to succeed, and all of this re-enforced by strong role-models in their family.

Man will I ever be crushed by Political Correctness if I even try to tiptoe around the fact that some other cultures / races just simply don't have this. But Political Correctness / Wokeism teaches them to instead blame "White Privilege" and racism for all of their shortcomings.

OK, whatever. I'm not buying it.

It all comes down to genes, work ethic, and the role models, or lack thereof, in their genetic tree. Yes there are exceptions in every person and every family, but in "general", this is the origin of success / intelligence within cultures/races.

reply

I wonder what inherited genes really are. My mom was 9 years younger than my dad.

Yea, Asians don't complain as much these days it seems, at least.

Asians are pretty good at playing violin in orchestras, too, my career goal.

reply

Why do you assume it's genetic and not cultural? Asians share a common culture, it could be just as likely that it's that culture that breeds that type of work ethic in them

reply

{Role Model = Culture = Environment}

It is definitely a mix of Genes and Environment. That's basic Sociology 101. I'm not excluding the culture one bit.

I don't buy all the White-Privilege crap, but I will concede that growing up in the Ghetto does put one at a disadvantage. But from there, it comes down to personal motivation to better oneself. And belief in oneself. And to believe in the greatness of the country to produce great possibilities. Just look no further than Oprah.

I've gotten off-topic from the Asian Community to the Black Community.

If you're beaten down by Woke values and taught that everyone is racist and against you, and that you'll never succeed, and you believe it, well don't blame the white guy for that / dat.

reply

Asians aren't smart. Specific asian cultures (Chinese and Japanese) put a strong emphasis on good grades. So they're not lazy. They do what we all could do if we applied ourselves.

The smartest people are actually white Americans and White British, followed by Italians. I say this purely on their inventiveness and creativity.

They created the modern technological world.

reply

It makes a lot of sense how you name Americans, British, and Italians. They do have a lot of influence on society.

Yea, a lot of people don't bother doing tooo much work, maybe, but then again a lot of people go to college.

reply

Yes I am not afraid to say the obvious, those three groups invented basically everything.

Chinese don't invent, they copy.

Japanese don't invent, they engineer, they refine. Look at all the "japanese technology" we use, they're all refinements of inventions white people made. TVs, music players, cameras, etc. They've made huge gains and I acknowledge that, but none of these things were invented by them.

Even their celebrated Walkman was found to infringe upon a white man's invention and they eventually lost in court.

reply

Yea, but they get down pretty well as a culture. They're pretty good at classical music.

reply

Playing music is actually like learning to read. I once asked how professional string players can play a piece at first site, they said it's just like reading a book and you're told at what speed to read it.

Of course, it's an amazing ability but apparently most could learn this with enough practice.

reply

It must be either harder or rare to play neatly up to speed, rather than just scratching.

reply

White Australians are not smart?

reply

Some I suppose, didn't they invent wifi?

reply

The Dutch did that. White Dutch, just to be extra clear.

White Australians invented Holden.

Countries like Japan emphasize education. This is from a Wikipedia article describing the elementary schools in that country:

The school year in Japan begins in April and classes are held from Monday to either Friday or Saturday, depending on the school. The school year consists of two or three terms, which are separated by short holidays in spring and winter, and a six-week-long summer break.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Japan

A six-day school week and fewer holidays and breaks make a big difference. One time I was talking to a young woman who was working at a Target store; she was from Germany and spoke English very well. I had no idea she was foreign-born until she mentioned it. She said she couldn't believe it when she first came to the U.S. and heard kids talking about "summer vacation." The concept of taking almost three months off from school was unheard of in her country.

reply

Japan sounds nice.

I had a foreign exchange student from Germany, and she was 3/4 French she said at the end and possibly 1/4 something else. That's interesting, I don't recall this so much. I know Germany is ahead in Music Education. I feel I've done lots of assignments related to this topic.
