So how are postal deliveries in America going ?

Still delayed by insufficient capacity for overwhelming demand or is it getting back to normal ? I have been wanting to place a few orders for delivery to Australia but I've been holding back.

reply

Honestly I haven't noticed anything different with our mail or deliveries. I placed an order with Home Depot on Wednesday and it was delivered on Saturday as promised.

reply

I've been ordering on Amazon and have not had good luck, overall. One thing I really needed was first delayed, and now they say it was lost. I'd already waited 7 days for it. Another order (NOT fulfilled by Amazon, which is the worst now) only took 3 days, and while not as good as the old 2-day shipping, it's a heck of a lot better than the rest. Oh, one other item got here in 2 days, again not fulfilled by Amazon.

Funny, I used to avoid 3rd party sellers, now I look for them.

reply

I order from them every day. If I want something soon I'll check when it gets delivered before buying it

reply

I always check when things are supposed to be delivered, but for several I've gotten the "sorry, it's running late" notice.

What do you order that you order from Amazon every day?? I've just moved so there are a number of things I need, plus, you know, pandemic.

reply

Sorry for the late reply. I order from Amazon Fresh and just recently I ordered some shampoo, Joico conditioner, sunscreen, birthday present for my aunt, paper bowls, dog treats, batteries, a book, Quisp cereal for my boyfriend, Hint water and a DVD for my sister

I get that "sorry, it's running late" too

reply

Where I live it's unpredictable. One package from 30 miles away took 7 days. A letter from 10 miles away took 1 day.

How are things in Oz? Back to normal, I gather?

reply

It depends. If the package is small enough to fit in the letter box it's no problem but if it's larger then you might have to go to the Post Office to collect it. Nervous delivery drivers...

reply

Because they don't want to have to knock on doors to deliver the packages?

reply

I think so, but then maybe they are so busy they've been cutting corners by just dumping parcels at the Post Office rather than delivering them.

reply

Are they able to leave packages on doorsteps? Here the PO, UPS, and FEDEX all can and do, unless it's something special that requires a signature.

reply

No here they are supposed to knock on the door unless the customer gives them prior consent to just leave it on the doorstep.

reply

Ah, then it's understandable they don't want to do that.

reply

Much better, coming earlier now

reply

I live in Australia. I bought 8 books on Ebay and 7 have arrived within the estimated delivery time. The last one is late but I've bought things on Ebay that have come late before all of this.

reply

MY MAIL/PACKAGE SERVICES HAVE BEEN BUSINESS AS USUAL...THERE HAS BEEN NO DIFFERENCE.

reply

There has been no difference for weeks - until recently, and it has nothing to do with the pandemic but new mail delivery drivers. Apparently, my place is too hard to find. I miss my old mail delivery driver, who recently retired before the whole covid-19 thing. He made the extra effort and we knew each other on a first-name basis.

reply

Thank you all for your responses. I see no reason to delay ordering any longer.

reply

Fine. They've always been pretty reliable where I live in the US. No change, other than some deliveries taking longer.
