Yes, but it's not all it's cracked up to be. It's not a guarantee you'll find a job you're happy with. Skill and experience are the underlying commodities that make it important.

I agree that it offers no guarantee of job satisfaction, but it's an essential credential today because it serves as a key gatekeeping mechanism. I have 20+ years of skill and experience and had people with graduate degrees reporting to me, yet I've found myself excluded from consideration for many job opportunities because I lack a bachelor's degree.
