Terrible movies from your childhood that you can't help but love
1. The Pagemaster (1994)
shareThe Pirate Movie (1982)
shareI know I'll probably get slammed for this, but I liked Song of the South - unfortunately it offends some people, (and I do understand why), but I loved the story of Br'er Rabbit and the Tar Baby, the Uncle Remus stories, and well, Zippety Doo Dah.
shareI liked it too. I didn't really understand any of the politics behind it, it was just a happy old man telling stories. I really would love to see it again to see what I didn't understand and how racist it really is.
shareIt can still be viewed on line. I watched it a few years ago - I still enjoyed it despite all of the negativity it receives from some people.
shareI've never heard of that. What's offensive about it?
sharePost Civil War in the South. Former slaves still attached to a white family and appear to be happy. Uncle Remus is a guy who sings and tells stories to the children. A lot of people have a problem with that and consider it to be black stereotyping. I can see why some people are bothered with it but then they just shouldn't watch it. Disney pulled it years ago because of the negative press and I imagine only people of my generation are familiar with the movie. It was released in the late 1940's and my mother took me to see it when I was a little girl in the early 1950's.
shareThat doesn't sound too bad. Just because they were former slaves, that doesn't mean they can't get along with a white family. Sounds like people are reaching with this.
shareIt's a happy movie. But the objection is that the black people shouldn't be happy and it doesn't really show how oppressed they still were. Sigh, it's a children's movie not a documentary.
shareMANNEQUIN..WATCHED IT HUNDREDS OF TIMES AS A KID...STILL WATCH IS 3 OR 4 TIMES A YEAR...IT HOLDS A SPOT ON MY 25 ALL TIME FAVORITE FLICKS LIST TOO.
