I've always enjoyed the 'Underdog Wins' storyline (The Karate Kid, Rocky II...many others)

I guess it's not a very 'modern' one though

I really like when a flashback to better times is done well, like in this scene from There Will be Blood: https://youtu.be/BtFp_teUWr8?t=221 or this scene from The Godfather Part II: https://youtu.be/i6rcv-njj3Y?t=158

I'm also just a sucker for these kinds of scenes in general, like near the ending of When Harry Met Sally when he's reminiscing of all the good times they had. Or even when it's just The Shire theme playing at mount doom near the end of RotK: https://youtu.be/BKIgv8AhffA?t=21

When an annoying character or villain gets what they deserve. An easy one that comes to mind is, say, there's been this annoying character that will not shut up or learn their lesson, and for some unknown reason, has not died or had any of the main characters call them out on their bad behavior. Then, in one epic move near the end of the tv series/tv episode/movie, some main or supporting character lets them have it. It's times like that when we, the audience, start cheering and yell "YES!!! FINALLY!!!"

Three examples I can think off the top of my head are:

-Princess Anna punching Prince Hans' lights out at the end of "Frozen."

- Susan firing an arrow at and killing the dwarf who's been torturing Edmund for a whole third of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."

- In the extended version of "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies," we get to see the ultimate fate of that little rat bastard who worked for the corrupt mayor of Lake Town. During the orc battle in that town at the foot of Erebor (The Lonely Mountain), he got thrown off a catapult and lodged into the throat of a troll, killing both of them during the battle. In fact, it was an accident caused by one of those coins he pilfered, falling out of his disguise and setting off the catapult.
