It's subjective whether this passes for "teacher's pet" or not.
I recently had a job where "Jessica" and the boss were close friends. Not related, just real close.
In any case, I distinctly remember Jessica always beginning her evening shift at 5. While everyone else, regardless of position, needed to be there by 4.
She wasn't even a supervisor.
Just a regular employee. Legit story.
Perhaps there was a reason that you were not aware of. When I was in school I worked out a deal with my employer that I could start 2 hours later than everyone else as I had a class that I couldn't change.
I worked there for 2 1/2 years, never heard of her taking classes or some other job.
Also, I live in a town where we just have a college extension. So, if you are taking classes, they start in the evening, around 6.
I worked the evening shift and it was near the end of my degree. One class offered. This was also before online education.
I'm not saying that she was taking classes, I'm saying that there might have been a reason that you didn't know about. There might not have been. She might have just been highly favoured, but again, she might not.
This past summer, I finished my schooling for being a Clinical Medical Assistant, and got to do my externship (which is mandatory) at a pain management clinic. I was more than happy to help out, and did everything I could to be a hard worker for the 8 hours I worked there each day, but the behavior of some of the employees really baffled me. The worst was the lab guy on our team. He often wouldn't show up for work, or he'd come in late, or worst of all, he didn't tell anyone some lab results came in, so our information for which patients had had urine tests recently was out-of-date and made the patients mad. One time I had to step in to gather urine samples for him, and neatly organize them in his office, so when he came back, he could pick up where I left off and send them to the lab. He often sent excuses, like having a kidney stone, or no explanation at all.
Turns out, he got away with this bad work behavior because he was the Office Manager's nephew. I mean, nobody there was perfect, but some of his behavior would be inexcusable in any other office setting.
On 2 separate occasions, I worked somewhere where a supervisor's sister repeatedly got away with showing up about 45 minutes late, so I don't doubt you for a second.
That could be, but this late 20's dame was definitely favored. She didn't have another job/classes, never been married, not even paying rent (living with her parents), no known medical conditions, etc...I bet if I had asked for 5pm, I would've been denied.
