Question about bumping threads

I haven't seen anyone here bump a thread in the basic sense.

My point: I think we can all agree that there's nothing wrong with bumping a thread that never got feedback.

But is it immoral to bump a thread that did get responses? This seems like the equivalent of reposting one of your recent threads.

Even worse still are the ones that bump "zero reply" threads, but repeatedly.
Glad we don't have that here.

reply

There's just one rule: don't. Okay, just don't. No one wanted to reply to your crummy topic, get over it!

Unless of course, you're making a master list of Blue Oyster Cult masterpieces and no one else wants to put in a little work.

reply

For myself, I think it depends where I'm at. When I was on filmboards, I'd bump ignored threads if I deemed them worthy, after 3-5 days.
For some reason, I'm not tempted to do that here.

reply

Boy, I'm glad I added the Blue Oyster Cult exception. That thread needs a lot of attention!

reply

It needs more cowbell.

reply

There was a thread not that long ago about whether it was OK to bump your own thread. IIRC the consensus was it's ok as long as it's not done more than a couple of times.

Bumping a thread that has replies seems strange. Reviving an old thread--by actually saying something besides *bump*--seems fine to me.

reply

Yes but first the thread has to give its enthusiastic consent.

reply

One or two threads bumped in the dark of the night and no one the wiser, who's to complain, say I?

reply

Certain older threads are worth posting to to keep them going...some topics have hundreds of interesting conversations and replies and that's why we're all here

I Especially enjoy responding to the posts that have no replies, I like to bump the crew...If you took the time to post it figure I'll reply, unless it's totally out of my wheelhouse

reply

I hear you, I was strictly referring to bumps from the OP.

reply

In that case threads should only be 'self-bumped' sparingly...No need to act like a piggy👍

reply

It happens so infrequently here, that it's not a concern.
