Anyone else feel overwhelmed by how expensive life is?

I make relatively decent money for not having a degree, $48k a year. But it doesn’t seem to be nearly enough. I get hit with charges left and right, aside from my regular bills I get bullshit fees with everything and I’m not talking about late fees. I just called my internet provider and it said I owed $140!! I have no idea what for. I can’t imagine if I had a car payment, medical bills or kids. I don’t know how people survive.

The things I find that help my family are not having any notes except a house note. I have six cars and trucks but all used and paid for. No credit cards. I have a check card that pulls straight from an account and if there are not enough funds I don’t spend. Don’t eat out often. Always bring a lunch to work. Just do your best to stay away from debt.

Yes. I don't earn much, but I know how to save, so it's not a problem to make ends meet. But it would be nice to be able to spend more on entertainment (eating out, cinema etc.). It's a shame that you basically have to be rich to be able to do that. Average people can't afford such things. (30 yo public servant / GIS technician from Europe, Hungary)

Gotta pick your battles. Plan on an event you can afford, make every effort to whittle down the cost, then make it happen. Be sure to make time for yourself, much less chance of burnout.

reply

No but I don't live like other people do.
I can't imagine how they deal with it. It would drive me crazy.

Managing money can be a long process.

reply

True, and an on-going process. I keep track of what I spend, although I admit that some months I spend more than I should. But keeping track of it helps me get back on budget.

reply

Took me decades to figure it out lol! Guy thing, I think. Got it down to a science now!

I've never been able to afford life and if I ever get really sick i'm gonna have to jump off a bridge. Life sucks. Is what it is. I've always hated it here. I'm looking forward to getting the hell out of the whole racket.
