I finally saw The Shawshank Redemption - Are there any classics you haven't seen yet?
I watched it last night and thought it was excellent. I really need to get round to seeing some more 'must see' films.

shareA bunch..even though I watched a lot of film classics on tv as a kid. I think they played them on Friday nights because my mother let me stay up.
I have yet to see:
Citizen Kane
Seven Samurai
On the Waterfront
Lawrence of Arabia
Doctor Zhivago
Avatar
The Lord of the Ring trilogy
and outside of Casablanca I've seen few of Humphrey Bogart's films..I've never been that big of a fan.
I'm sure there's tons more classics I haven't seen.
There's a few classics I have yet to scratch off the list. I've never seen:
Gone With the Wind
It's a Wonderful Life (probably have seen it all in bits and pieces in the background of parties, but never the whole thing.)
Streetcar Named Desire (That's the "Stella" movie, right?)
Bridge on the River Kwai (haven't seen most old war movies, actually. they never interested me.)

It depends on what we are defining as a classic. I have seen most of films that are usually classified as must see or classics.
shareCasablanca. I'll see it at some point, I just haven't yet.
shareShawshank's deleted scenes are interesting. Andy and Red were lovers in the original director's cut.
shareI've never seen Citizen Kane and try as I might I just can't work up the desire to.
shareIt was such a let-down for me when I saw it after hearing it so hyped up. But I will say it's well worth seeing for the amazing camera work and cinematography.
shareI've heard others call it a let-down as well. It is definitely on my bucket list but who knows when I'll get to it.
shareA lot of old greats are let-downs when watching them for the first time decades after their release. They were great in their eras, but don't age very well in as far as we are used to seeing more modern, more realistic movies. A lot of times it's hard to see the greatness of what it was because times and tastes change drastically as years go by. It just can't be helped.
shareI'm surprised, since so many still praise it so highly. Well, I'm sure there are other things on your bucket list that deserve higher priority. It is a film bucket list or a general one? If general, what are your top few items? Heck, spill if it's a film bucket list too :D
shareCitizen Kane is not one that I return to again and again but I was fortunate enough to see it on the big screen, many years ago, and in that format it is astounding. Whatever you personally get out of it, its place in history means it deserves to be watched by anyone with a passing interest in cinema. Do give it a try one of these days!
