Overrated actors?

Who are some actors most think are excellent, but you just don’t see it?

Brad Pitt seems to the worst “best actor”, alot of people said he was the worst thing about Inglourious Basterds, and that he’s never been good. After watching War Machine, I’m starting to agree...

I used to think that Brad Pitt was overrated until I saw him in Fight Club, Inglorious Basterds and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I don't know why he sucked so much early on (he was awful in Se7en and 12 Monkeys) but I have a feeling it was because Hollywood didn't know how to work with him.

Marlon Brando and James Dean two of the hammiest hams in the business, I can't watch anything with them in it.
George Clooney, makes terrible films.
Samuel L Jackson
Will Smith, same shtick every film, I know that can be said about every actor but with him it is more apparent.
Jack Black, see above plus over acts.
Daniel Day Lewis
Meryl Streep
Sidney Poitier
Denzel Washington
Robert De Niro
Al Pacino - another ham.
Tom Hanks
Heath Ledger
Johnny Depp
Tom Cruise
Charlize Theron
Nicole Kidman
Julia Roberts
Whoopi Goldberg, ok I am not sure if she is "rated" at all but she annoys me to no end.
Sean Penn - makes some of the most pretentious crap I have ever witnessed.

agree the most with Robert De Niro...... except his roles in Brazil (minor) & Jackie Brown man he plays the same dude.

OK taxi driver was fine but that's it

I forgot about George Clooney. He would certainly be near the top of my list too.

reply

He makes some really pretentious dross in my opinion.

Maybe Marlon Brando was a great stage actor. I don't know. But I always thought he was greatly overrated for his film work.

reply

He comes across as a stage actor that overwrought style, also reminds me of the silent era and 1920's style.

reply

John Malkovich. From what I've seen he's a one trick pony. I'll admit it's a damn good trick but it's still just the one.

reply

I've never liked him. He comes off as creepy (not in a good way). He ruined that NBC pirates show based on Blackbeard awhile back. It would've definitely lasted longer had a different actor been cast.

reply

Mel Gibson. I can't stand him.

Meryl Streep.

It's not so much that I "just don't see it" as to why she's praised - I actually do think she's incredibly gifted as an actor.

But....(there's always a but!)....she has come to rely on so many familiar tics and habits that she no longer truly inhabits a role anymore. She started out seeming to be different in each role, something laudable, but now pretty much uses the same mannerisms every time out. It's always "Meryl" shining through now almost as badly as it's always really kinda Jack Nicholson. And there's another one!

Mark Wahlberg

Natalie Portman

Harrison Ford

Yes. He's terrible. He's a guy who just shows up on the set either bored or angry but has all the directors thinking that he's "acting." No. He's not acting. That's just who he is. Watching Blade Runner pretty much confirmed it. He sounds bored throughout the entire film but it gets played off as him being a jaded cop (or whatever the hell he was). No. He was bored and wanting to get through the shoot as fast as possible.

Also in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He's like lemme outta here and where's my paycheck already at first appearance.
