Weird food combinations you enjoy for some reason
Cheese with jam.
shareChocolate sponge topped with macaroni cheese.
sharecheese, green olives, crackers and tea.
sharei haven't tried it yet myself, but my city has a fairly huge filipino community, & they all seem to obsess over this dessert called halo-halo that is made out of a mixture of fruit, shaved ice & various beans among other things. supposedly it's great, but i can't quite get past the idea of beans in a dessert.
shareWhat is shaved ice?
sharejust what it sounds like, i guess - a block of ice gets shaved or crushed, then flavored, usually with something sweet.
shareYou're from Europe, right? Don't you have that Caribbean guy with the shaved ice stand with all those colourful bottles where you live?
sharethis is a probably irrelevant aside, but i don't quite get the pure hatred i so often see for pineapple on pizza. it's fine! i don't have it much myself now, because i'm a vegetarian & pineapple probably only makes sense if it's paired with ham or some other kind of meat. but the depth of antagonism that people have towards pineapple pizza puzzles me. pineapple is good. sweet, nice texture.
shareMany are probably just bandwagoning.
sharePineapple on pizza is disgusting! Pineapple is a sweet fruit, it does not belong together with meat or tomato sauce.
shareI'm with damosuzuki, I don't get the outrage over pineapple on pizza.
Same here about going vegetarian - I don't eat pineapple & ham/canadian bacon pizza anymore but I LOVED it. The combination was delicious and for some reason the whole pairing of pineapple with tomato sauce worked even though it sounds like it couldn't. That combo was my favorite pizza topping back when I still ate meat.
It's very tasty. Red beans are very popular in Asian sweets and desserts. They taste a bit like chestnuts. Give it a try.
sharei'm actually going to make a point of trying it soon. i think it's really popular as a summer treat here. i work with a few filipino women, & they'll set me straight as to what the best place in town is for it.
shareMy favourite Thai restaurant always gives a dessert with their take-out. Usually it's tapioca pudding with those small reddish beans in it. It's not bad, but I never finish it because it's not good, either. It's the bean texture in something sweet that I don't like.
