Is Hollywood too white?
I don't know exactly how white Hollywood is. America is about 65% white right now, but it was 90% white as recently as 1965, so I would expect some lag when looking at a field of people at the top of their game. Blacks at a consistent 13% of the population seem to be overrepresented. It's probably Hispanics who should fill the gap, not blacks, and Hispanics are usually technically white. But I can certainly see why people would think Hollywood is too white, if it's in reguard to that.
I don't think that's the case though. People don't usually say there aren't enough Hispanics. They always say it in reverse, that there are too many whites, a sentiment driven by hatred of whites rather than compassion for Hispanics. Usually the complaint is made when a black person loses an award or something.
It almost seems deliberate that the issue of Hispanics is being avoided, like Hollywood doesn't want to scare conservatives. America's demographics are changing rapidly, and studies show that people are not aware of this, and that it makes them afraid to think about. In fact white liberals are just as likely as white conservatives in these studies to turn against welfare when informed about democraphic change. I think Hollywood is waiting for Republicans to become demographically unelectable. Then it will be safe.
People have a lot of hangups about these issues. We're talking about a few percentage points difference in representation. For some of us it just feels great to kill whitey. But what about Jewish overrepresentation? Jews are only 2% of the population, and probably at least half of Hollywood, especially at the top. If we even notice this, we get attacked for antisemitism. It's the complete opposite reaction. Sometimes the slightly higher IQ person might try to make the point that Jews created Hollywood. "Of course they run it. So what? They deserve it". Wrong again. All you have to do is point out that it's Jewish men. So we're supposed to exclude women now? This makes it morally right? Of course not. It's just that social justice has us constantly stepping on each other's toes and we can't keep our intersectional privlidges straight.
Hollywood isn't white enough.
